The "shortage" is only at the pumps at the moment, and is purely due to consumer panic. Oil companies provide regular road tanker deliveries to their stations based on normal weekly / monthly demand. When a mob of people flood said stations demanding they fill jerry cans, and top up their vehicles every time the tank drops by a few Litres, then the stations use up their supply very quickly. It's exactly like the great toilet paper shortage in the West during Covid, or a run on a bank, that has enough money for regular daily activity, but nowhere near enough if everyone wanted to withdraw their money at once. Hopefully, once the next round of deliveries have been made (PTT in this area are saying around the end of the month), enough people will be sitting on full jerry cans and fuel tanks that things will revert to some normality, though, given human stupidity, I won't be holding my breath. If the supply chain issue isn't resolved by around June, then we will likely be looking at a real shortage. In Buriram, a lot of smaller stations are totally empty, as are most PT ones. PTT seem to be doing better, but there were long queues for diesel at the local station when I went to put 500 Baht worth of E20 in the car yesterday. Luckily, the front row of pumps sell premium diesel - which was all gone for some reason, and E20, so no one was waiting at that one. I was able to cut in front, fill the tank and be gone in about the usual time.
