Windows 10 updates

Featured Replies

I really love Windows 10 and have it installed on all my computers at home and in office, but....... one thing really annoys me. I never know how long the updates will take.

I amusing a new HP laptop in my office and today I turned it on at 13.45.

I got the usual message of "Don't turn off your PC"..+ This may take a while.

Well it is now 15.20 and I am up to 97% updated.

I have been sitting here for nearly 2 hours waiting for my computer to boot.

Is there a way of controlling or at least knowing how long the updates will take.

Sometimes they take just a few seconds.

I just downloaded the latest Window 10 update onto my oldest and slowest laptop and it 11 hours. I usually sticks at 32% for hours.

Creator's update took 3 hours and has ironed out loads of problems on my ancient ACER laptop. Very happy so far.

Ok, I am at Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update Settings.

How do I fix the lengthy updates at shutdown?

It only took that long because it was a new machine and had to download and install the Creators update.

Still seems like an excessive length of time though.

Bottom line? You can't change how long it's going to take to update. You can only change when it's going to happen.
