You want CNN from the U.S., or (one of) the international versions? (TrueVisions shows the int'l version, which does have some U.S. content, like New Day for an hour.)

I use an Android device, and YouTube (search for CNN Live stream), then cast that to my Chromecast. ( You may have to run Google Home as well.) These are people in the U.S. re-streaming CNN, so you get a "regional" flavor based on the local market: "Central Ohio's largest mattress store". The pharma ads get annoying after a while. There is a 1 - 2 minute delay.

Thanks. I have signed up to NetFlix which is great but to finally dump the TERRIBLE TrueVisions I wanted a live stream from CNN and/or BBC. I will try YouTube thank you as I had no idea they are 'Live'.  Got Chormecast which is good but still getting used to it.

Love NetFlix but hate that I cannot remove a programme from my 'watch list' easily. And sometimes no sounds so i have to switch TV on and off.

CBS News has live streaming, but it more focused on U.S. news versus international.  You can go to their website or just download/install one of their apps like for Android, etc.  They have apps for other platforms also.  I've been pretty impressed with CBS News....a LOT less political than CNN, FoxNews, etc., younger news anchors, etc.

App for CBSN on Google Play

I installed the CBSN Android app on my AIS Playbox (that is, an Android box), set the CBS News app setting to default to Live Stream when the app starts up...so, whenever I start the app it immediately starts live streaming just like you switched to a TV channel on a TV box.

It doesn't seem like you can run the CBS News Android app on your Android phone, and then stream it to your Chromecast. At least I couldn't see that option, nor does Chromecast offer that capability unless you subscribe to the overall CBS offer at $5.99/month.  So you'd need an Android box.

Not sure what this article from a few days ago refers to?

You may be able to find a stream on Youtube as well...

It looks like you can go to the CBSN web-site, with a PC/Chrome, select live, then cast that. Works for me. (I couldn't do that from my Android phone - using the Chrome browser, live stream won't start, probably an issue with my phone not having the right app to handle that stream?)

CBS News definitely works great on my Android box (i.e., my AIS Playbox which is just an Android box)..  CBSN streams live 24/7 to anywhere in the world.   Now when its commercial time you don't see any commercials; instead CBSN just plays something informational for a few minutes like weather, platforms CBSN works on, etc.

And like I said I have the app setting set to default to full screen live stream upon opening the app....open the app and a few seconds later you have  full screen live stream just like watching it on a TV settop box.   Or you can just use the app like a regular website...click on individual news articles/videos, go to live streaming, etc.

Thanks for all info - I managed to get CNN to cast (I'm very new to this) and so it's goodbye TrueVision ASAP.  Is there ANY service which offers the whole package?  I mean TV shows, movies, News. It seems netflix is great at US series (most I've never heard of) but not so keen on their movie catalogue - seems a bit old?  also still sometimes no sound so have to turn off and on

As well it should, no one has suggested otherwise. However, the OP doesn't have an Android box, AFAIK.

Enchilada TV?

Without a very exact definition of "the whole package" this is impossible to answer. There are gazillions of paid subscription services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, SlingTV, DirecTV, et al.) which may or may not be available here (exclusive of using a geo-location spoofing service); your ISP may offer some streaming services; there are some free services, and then there are some of the potentially dodgy offerings.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

Piecing together a perfect amalgamation of live TV, sports, events, news (perhaps country-specific) along with stored TV shows and movies can prove challenging. And just when you get it all working, something changes.

That is true (or not True haha). I have now cancelled TrueVision after 8 years coz I was absolutely peed orf with repeats of 2012 and the removal of HBO.  Now I can cast so much from Netflix and YouTube i dont need it and will miss Pawn Stars the most. Saved nearly 2000 a month. TrueVision should be ashamed of the service they give and its only a matter of time before everyone realizes, as I did, that casting (and possibly some ex-pat tv channels) are the way to go and cheaper!

I only have luck using Chromecast for content that is specifically designed to be cast.

Even US PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) will only make their content "cast" via You Tube much later than the first airing, you have to look for this symbol in order for content to be streamed to a TV using a Chromecast dongle

That statement only applies to the NATIVE Android capabilities. There are many, many, many third-party apps which allow one to cast anything from a mobile to a Chromecast.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stefanpledl.localcast&hl=en

And on a PC, with a Chrome browser, you can cast any desktop or tab to a Chromecast. So anything which can be seen/played. etc on the web can be cast to your TV.

USTVNOW still offers eight (8) channels for free, including PBS (right now it's WPSU - fund raising). They have an Android APK (a bit hard to find, perhaps but it works).

https://watch.ustvnow.com/subscription

There are other APKs for live TV.

yes but CNN. for example,  is LIVE just as on TrueVision and I have run both together and they are exactly the same and there must be many others. I'm thinking of having an expat TV package for daily TV as well as netflix.  I have come to loathe TrueVision for their repeats, removing HBO etc.

From the U.S. there are many Live TV options (paid): USTVNow, Hulu, SlingTV, DirecTV Now, PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV (Red).

Some may require use of geo-spoofing.

If you have a family member/friend who is a U.S. cable subscriber you may be able to utilize their credentials; I do this via  VPN with Comcast/Xfinity.
