BMA ready to test flood tunnel under Bang Sue Canal on Sep 6

BANGKOK, 29 August 2017 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is gearing up for a test run of the giant drainage tunnel under the Bang Sue Canal early next month.

Bangkok Governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang paid a visit to Kiak Kai pumping station in Dusit district to inspect the readiness of the new flood tunnel under the Bang Sue Canal. On this occasion, he stated that the entire structure and drainage system of the tunnel have been fully finished and a trial run has been scheduled for September 6.

The giant tunnel stretches over 6 kilometers from the Lat Phrao Canal to the Chao Phraya River and has the capacity to drain at least 60 millimeters of rainwater per hour.

It is expected to effectively alleviate flooding in six districts of the capital, namely Dusit, Bang Sue, Phaya Thai, Chatuchak, Din Daeng and Huai Khwang.

Of course for this to work, one has to assume that the drainage system from the six districts to the new tunnel will have to be in excellent condition, free of blockage.. :giggle:

Yesterday i saw on tv how Kenia totally stopped with plastic bags and is the most strict country now for them. They have new fines from 35000 us$ for littering plastic.

Let's see how that works out, bangkok should do the same. Only fining farang smokers 2000 baht is not going to keep the drains open from plastic.
