  1. There was a news article that said they were thinking of extending the 45 day entry through the end of the year. https://e.vnexpress.net/news/travel/thailand-plans-to-extend-45-day-visa-free-stay-policy-until-year-end-4560738.html
  2. Looks like the bruising my mom gets from brushing up against nearly anything. No need to bang or bump something in a noticeable fashion. She gets them while sleeping as well. Mostly on her hands and arms. She's 83.
  3. "Old School" also means different things to different countries. Not too many '32 Deuce Coups made it to Europe and not a lot of Bentleys rolling on the streets in the states. ????
  4. Why doesn't your mom just apply for a Non-O before coming? With it, there is no need for an onward ticket.
  5. I'd be willing to hump a couple dozen of them per week for a small fee - why should the doctors have all the fun.
  6. https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Other-Services/Transfers/Transferring-Into-Thailand/Transfer-money-from-US-to-Thailand-via-Bangkok-Bank-NewYork-branch Just send it using the domestic routing number 026008691 and your BBK account number. Always works for me. Even have direct deposit of my SS sent that way. ETA: I can pm you my account number if you'd like to test it 1st. ????
  7. Uniformity vs Individuality has always been a higher concern in the Thai schools. Individuals ask teachers questions and to explain clearly where groups do not. Keeps the stupid employed and the group demur. Recall several yrs ago an Ed Minister had all Thai teachers tested at M6 level in their respective subjects and after an 80+% failure rate, was moved to a new post. Those that can't do, teach - those that can't teach, teach PE.
  8. If neither of you earned it in Thailand then it's not taxable in Thailand. Doesn't matter whose account monthly living expenses are paid out from. Been letting the wife handle paying all the bills for 20 yrs. She enjoys it, I do not. What's the big deal? Besides, her phone is smarter than mine. ????
  9. You could try something really old fashioned like, keeping the receipt.
  10. This is a great idea! All he needs to do now is spend 12-14 hrs driving time plus a short 30-60 minute wait. ????
  11. https://gilmore.gvsd.us/documents/Info/Forms/Teacher Forms/Presidentialchallengetest.pdf This for every school below college in the states. Just saying.
  12. OP - Can you show a 40k per month revenue stream? You don't need money in the bank if you can. There is also the combination method of some money in the bank and some income combined. Just a thought since you already have the Non-O extension.
  13. I always thought it had to hit the Royal Gazette before the panic ensued. As speculated, in MAY be a 'heads-up' of something in the pipeline as its announcement (article quote) came shortly after "Big Joke" started hauling in the head honchos from immigration and labor.
  14. Book a hotel online with a shuttle service.
  15. Where's the new address? Does CW cover that area? Is it short term or long term? (Hotel vs Condo) The owner SHOULD have registered you the day you moved in. You'll need a copy of that and use that address.
  16. What did she show at the border to be let into Thailand in the first place?
  17. All I know is my wife and I send USD to our Thai banks when the the $ is strong and send THB to our US bank when the baht is strong. We spend $ in the states and baht in Thailand and the cost of daily life isn't affected by either. Since it only cost $20 to send we do it when we can make 2-4x that. Free money is always nice.
  18. Just a wai and a thank you is all - I didn't care what others may or not think. my money was going home with me. ????
  19. Don't take THB out of Thailand, take EUROs out. You can go to the bank, withdraw the funds, take them to a SuperRich location and exchange the baht to Euro then take the Euro back home in your pocket. Another option would be to use said funds to buy stock in UOB Bank and then sell them when you get back to your home country. Stock price: UOVEY (OTCMKTS) $45.49 +0.01 (+0.02%) <- from the UOB Bank website)
  20. OP - I gave up carrying a wallet in Thailand all together as it's just too easy for pickpockets to steal it, not to mention the chance that you'll get caught out in the rain at some point. I keep my ID on my phone (in pictures) and my cards in a small ziplock bag and my money in my front pocket. That being said (small compensation now, I know) you may as well write it off with a mai pen rai and just check back at the box from time to time if it has some sentimental value. IF it does show up there, thank them graciously for a job well done (if it's a Thai policeman). Might help you later in another sticky spot as they'll remember the "gracious tourist". ETA: Example: was swept up in a month-end motorcycle stop and fleece checkpoint and an officer I had treated well and thanked for helping saw me, took me to 1 side, let the others get fleeced then sent me on my way with a friendly smile.
  21. OP - what amount (ballpark figure) are you thinking about? If it's not a suitcase full, why not go to superrich, exchange it and carry it with you on the plane? I did this to bring 100k to the states with me. Nobody cared about the lump in my socks in my backpack. Also. my wife has sent me around 75k straight from Bangkok Bank to my account in the states. Cost her 200 baht to send and me $20 to receive. I also have the ability to use the Thai banking app on my Thai phone from the states as all it needs is a wifi connection. Right now, with the exchange rates so low we're making a little money with each transfer and when the $ gets stronger again we'll be sending some back to Thailand.
  22. OP - Just an FYI but keep your boarding pass til you're through Thai immigration at the airport. There are reports that people get asked for it.
  23. What YOU believe or don't believe is the only irreverent factor here then. I was also stamped in and out w/o ever leaving Thailand in 2003 south of Hua Hin because the border was closed due to conflict. Don't let your personal experience limit your acceptance of the truth. It never happened to me so it can't be true is pretty narrow thinking.
