Grounding from a wall socket/receptacle/outlet: Is it safe?
Crossy replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in DIY Forum
If you have access to the building steel it is certainly an option, it is by no means ideal as the steel isn't intended to be used like that and any interconnection is purely coincidental. Our roof steel actually tests better than our ground rod! This stood us in good stead when we took a direct hit to our roof not long after we moved in. The only damage was to one of Madams teak barge boards and two ridge tiles 🙂 -
Minimal solar installation to support a pool pump?
Crossy replied to LogicThai's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
How big (Watts) is your pool pump? A small grid-tie system that can supply enough oomph to run the pump without exporting energy to the grid shouldn't break the bank.- 1 reply

We never really intended to go off-grid, but I got a great deal on a stack of panels and batteries from the estate of a mate who sadly dropped dead (ok he drank way too much). His widow just wanted rid of the stuff that he'd acquired over the years so she could sell off their house in Don Mueang. No, I didn't rip her off, I'm not that type of guy, we agreed a sensible price for "new old-stock" on cells and panels. It just so happened that I had just ordered 28kWh of new batteries from China so we've ended up with rather more generation and storage than I'd anticipated. Of course, Madam has designs on an EV and to enclose our large downstairs living area which will require A/C. I've long since given up on any idea of ROI, I'm an engineer doing what engineers do (keeps the little grey cells active (c) Hercule Poirot).

We are rather limited by our battery capacity since we don't export and are operating basically off-grid. A sunny day after the batteries get depleted would be the ideal situation. The long weekend will be a test as we have family here for 3 days so all the A/C will be running. Hopefully we won't need to import.

Applying heat-shrink to your long metal tools is a smart move, reduces the possibility of an exciting splat!!

You can never have too many panels!! Do watch your PV input voltage, the Deye (we have 3) has a maximum PV input voltage of 500V, the total of the Voc of your panels must not exceed that. If Voc of each panel is less than 50V then you'll be good to go with 10 per string. Obviously check with your particular inverter manual. As to sunny/vs overcast, we can vary between >70kWh on a nice day to <20kWh on a damp and miserable day (we have 18kWP of solar, you do the sums).

Upgrade Solar Inverter+ Batteries now or wait
Crossy replied to eddysacc's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Luyuan are well respected on several other DIY solar forums, never heard of any scams involving them. Delivery is by road, IIRC it took a couple of weeks after actual dispatch. Payment is via Alipay use Yuan or USD (get a small discount for Yuan), several options, I use my UK credit card. I did have to talk to the fraud department in order to authorise the first payment but since then no issues. Warranty is, I believe, 1 year, but verify with them, you have to use chat to sort out all the options and agreed price. -
As any user of certain "establishments" would know, buffalo are very valuable animals

The van was in the initial argument with the buffalo.

How about a solar car port on a budget?

Despite my best will, I'm afraid I was weakened by a 15% Lazada voucher and bought another Deye inverter. -
Voltage Discrepancy with APC UPS BV1000I-MST: 230V input & 206V output?

If they are that new, I'd be going back to JIB and having a moan. -
Voltage Discrepancy with APC UPS BV1000I-MST: 230V input & 206V output?
Crossy replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in DIY Forum
Nip down to Lotus's or your favourite DIY place and get a cheap digital multimeter. even the cheapies are fine for comparison measurements. Then you will be able to respond to our questions in a timely manner. How old are these units? If your supply is 230V as you suggest there's no reason for your UPS to do anything unusual. Unless, of course the "GammaGlobulin make odd things happen" field is active. -
Voltage Discrepancy with APC UPS BV1000I-MST: 230V input & 206V output?
Crossy replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in DIY Forum
OK, so you are actually measuring the output of the UPS whilst it's on mains "pass through". I note that this unit has a built-in AVR which would explain how it's giving out a different voltage to what's going in. What do you see when it's running on battery? EDIT Do you have a load on the output when checking, try 200W or so. -
Voltage Discrepancy with APC UPS BV1000I-MST: 230V input & 206V output?
Crossy replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in DIY Forum
Are you measuring the output with the UPS disconnected from the mains? It's not pure-sine so you could be correct with your meter thoughts. https://www.apc.com/th/en/product/BV1000I-MST/apc-easy-ups-1000va-floor-wall-mount-230v-4x-universal-outlets-avr/ Either way what you are seeing is well within the normal operating range of most appliances particularly those with universal power supplies. -

If you are going underground make sure your tank will never, ever get flooded. Also, your pump suction line will need a foot valve (non-return valve) at the bottom for best results.
-
You need a location with easy access to the pipework between the meter and the first tap which needs boosting. That location will also need an electricity supply for the pump. A simple concrete slab to support the tank, a small pump and you're good to go. You may want to increase the pipe size from pump to house if it's less than 3/4".

Fixed the typo (PEA??). That second diagram looks awfully familiar
