  1. CDC says vaccine doesn't stop transmission of COVID. A recent news story claims 12 fully vaccinated staff in a Hua Hin restaurant had COVID. CDC says vaccinated people should still wear masks and social distance.
  2. Don't build on flood plains, and if you must, build on pillars. Not sure why you think floods will be worse in the future, they seem the same as always to me.
  3. She'll get a pay increase next month when she finishes her 3 month probation. English wasn't required to get the job, so she didn't tell them she spoke English.
  4. No way, my kid as a new graduate gets a starting wage of 18k/month in CM and hasn't even told them she can speak English. 25k for someone that is fluent in BK or you'll be disappointed.
  5. Watched 10 minutes ........ the most woke multi cultural garbage imaginable. The actors are the most completely hopeless ever, and just seem to have been employed on the basis of not being white.
  6. No, I think the Thai government doesn't really care about tourists coming. They are just posturing to appease the local hotel owners and staff.
  7. Never saw any point in looking at photos/videos of naked women. Having them sit on my lap .......... entirely different. People who pay $20 to see photos of a topless model ............ losers.
  8. If my pension were to become worthless it would probably mean TEOTWAWKI. In which case a few 45Kg sacks of rice hidden in sealed bins would probably be worth more than all the gold/crypto in the world. Can't imagine Thailand surviving the crash of the western monetary system in it's current form.
  9. Don't see a problem, Mom and Pop stores and booze shops will sell to you any time of the day. Restricted selling hours are only kept by the supermarket chains. I'm happy to sit at home and drink alone on the patio. Saves me lots of money.
  10. Sticky waterfalls, about 30Km up the 1001 (aka Nam Tok Bua Tong). Free entry and parking, and the kids love walking up the waterfalls.
  11. I was invited to join the monks at Wat Chedi Luang in Chiang Mai 10 years back. They said I should try it for a week or two, but I could stay as long as I liked, no charge.
  12. IF the world opens up. I suspect it won't open up (in the near future) for normal people. I hope I'm wrong. Not to mention you can have as many vaccinations as you like in Thailand, the UK still won't let you in without quarantine.
  13. I'm not convinced the world will ever open again, for any but the rich and influential. There's quite a large possibility that mass international tourism is gone for good.
  14. Seems unlikely to me ........ but what do I know? How do I apply for the senior World Bank economist Job?
  15. I'd just look the other way and pretend I didn't hear/see you.
  16. Torrential rain every day in Chiang Mai.
  17. Huay Tung Tao lake, entry is 20bht Thai, 50bht foreigner, free over 60yo. My entire family love it, after lunch we go and walk around the straw animals. There's also a big waterfall 2Km up a hiking trail. Best place in the world to eat, no need to ever go to another restaurant.
  18. Graphics cards are a problem in Thailand at the moment, very expensive, lots of fakes. It might be a good idea to buy the graphics card, processor and memory in the USA and bring them with you.
  19. Heinz yellow mustard from Makro, don't like French's too sweet, don't buy Coleman's too expensive. I've always bought HP sauce, although Daddy's and OK (never seen either in Thailand) are acceptable if on sale for less than HP.
  20. Thai people tend to live outside, British people mainly live inside, due to the weather. Old Thai people are often very thin, old British people are usually overweight. Thai people die fairly quickly when they're old, British people linger on forever under the NHS. I suspect this is the main difference for the COVID death discrepancies between the two countries. But I'm no expert and I'm not trying to spread misinformation.
  21. I goto the government hospital every 2 months. 50bht to see the doctor (inc hospital services), 180bht for 2 months of pills. Sometimes they do a PSA test for an extra 250bht. I don't have any insurance, I'm OK with death when my time comes.
  22. I've personally seen ZERO crime since COVID, and only 1 incidence of crime in the 10 years prior to COVID. (m/c helmet stolen from my parked scooter)
  23. If the country requires any of these for entry there will be few tourists.
  24. Would like to point out Thai can get very angry and shoot or hack at you with a machete over similar foolish disputes, but will agree there's less shouting involved. Would also point out dementia among the elderly often displays itself as 'screaming wildly', I always remove myself from such scenes before one of the Thais pulls their gun and starts shooting randomly. Back in his home country he wouldn't get this opportunity as nearly all the banks closed (at least in the UK they have).
