Can Thailand detonate the baby boom it needs as retirement time bomb looms?
So we can forget about any young girls coming into the bars. The average age now is about 40, will creep upto 50.

Where to park the 800,000 THB?
I use the Krungsri Mai Tai Dee acoount. Only pays 0.9% but acceptable to immigration, you get a normal savings account with debit card and bank book etc. Used to be a good rate when it was 0.1% back home.

Buying a condo as a long term rental
I doubt you would get 8% ROI. Just guessing you pay 3 million baht. Rent for 12,000 a month. By the time you have paid common fees etc and adjust for unoccupied periods you might only net 100,000 income a year - 3%, with no capital appreciation. Rents are cheap here.

New laptop?
Personally i wouldn't try to upgrade an 8 year old laptop. Just get a new one with decent RAM and ROM a newish processor and W11. You can get them here 15-20,000 baht. If it lasts 8 years that's 6 baht a day ! Even i can afford that.

WHat is the maintenance fee in view talay?
So what's the alternative? Good luck getting a 48 sqm condo in the centre of Pattaya for 7-8000 a month, with a massive pool, loads of parking and low maintenance fees. I get the baht bus into town 2-3 times a week. OK the traffic is bad but it's only a 20 minute ride.

WHat is the maintenance fee in view talay?
I agree about Nirun, you couldn't pay me to live there. Don't agree about VT2 though, not isolated. On the baht bus route, easy to get to Jomtien or Pattaya. Foodmart just 100 yards away. Bus station 100 yards. Loads of bars restauatants with 400 yards. Short walk to the beach. VT2 is a great choice, at the lower end of the market.

Thai woman challenges traditional roles with refusal to iron husband’s clothes
So is she happy to do the "male" tasks, painting, cut the grass, car maintenance, decorating etc. Or does the man have to do everything?

State of recently build condos in Pattaya, example The Base
The older condos never had units that small. Mine the lowest is 45 sqm, the same i think with places like the VTs. It is only the ones built after 2015 that have the dog kennels of sub 30 sqm.

Dangers of driving here and being a pedestrian. I nearly got hit on a zebra crossing
Zebra crossings are death traps, avoid them. I have nearly been run over twice crossing them.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)
Did you get your own physical copy of the 2 season blurays in a boxed set? Thought not.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)
Just got the Reacher Season 1 and 2 bluray from Blurayshop Lazada. They are great value here 160 baht compared to the rip off western prices. Great quality too and a great series.

Can my daughter own a car at 16 years of age?
He's right, a car is just an asset anyone can own it. Driving it illegally that's another matter but many Thais do.

Real Estate Sales Agents Commissions
5% is a joke here, for doing virtually nothing. One even used the photos i had taken ! In the UK i was used to paying 1-2% max. And for that they produced glossy brochures with photos and details of the property.

You can't get a good pizza
You must be fussy, plenty of great pizza places. My favouries are Dom soi 5 Pratamnack, and (surprisingly) Hemmingways near Jomtien beach.

Transport from/to the islands Phangan, Tao and Samui
I have done that route twice and it's a nightmare. Flying to Surat Thani (maybe staying a night) travel to the pier, ferry to KS and then taxi to hotel. I would never do it again and i definitely won't pay Bangkok Airways rip off prices so that's Samui off my holiday list.

Helmets, What do you recommend? Carbon Type
I recently tried buying a new helmet via Lazada but i think their sizing is very unreliable (like their clothes). I had to send one back because it didn't fit despite being supposedly my size. I don't want to have to keep doing that so i guess i have to find a suitable helmet i can try on in a shop. But there isn't much choice in Pattaya except the basic 200-600 baht ones.

Thai Government Reminds Hospitals They Cannot Refuse Emergency Patients, Including Foreign Tourists
I would have thought most emergency cases would not be in a condition (unconsious etc) to make any payments (unless with friends). So the hospital has to either treat without initial payment or turn them away. Does the term foreign tourists include expats? probably not.

Thailand Pushes ‘Land Bridge’ to Speed Trade
There will be big brown envelopes from China to build this to avoid the Malacca chokepoint.

Is there a big bus from Don Mueang airport to Pattaya?
There is no direct bus route which is a real PITA and why i try to avoid DM if i can. I remember once it took me 5 hours to get from DM to Pattaya. What really annoys me as well is that they won't let you take the shuttle bus to Suvarnabhumi on your return.

Pattaya Mayor Promises to Expand and Improve Beach Road Walkway After Online Criticism
In the 15 years i have lived here i don't think beach road has ever had a completed decent walkway. Usually it's like a war zone. Must be the longest construction project in history.
