  1. The temp sensor is normally above the input fins and almost at ceiling level so hottest place in room. Is your ceiling insulated? If not that can be a real issue and might require AC unit to be hung lower on wall or run dry mode rather than cooling when sun is hot on the roof.
  2. Was this a new card? There is a 100 baht join fee and 300 baht annual fee for the normal debit cards. https://www.bangkokbank.com/-/media/files/personal/cards/debit-cards/be1st-smart-landingpage/be1st-smart-landing-pageen/be1stdue2019_en.pdf?la=en&hash=CF4971B6E7EBEB24A49F5D95710B9DE19ECCD15B
  3. Remember that your home bank must allow the 30k at current exchange rate of card. And if you get the option to have amount displayed in home currency (they use various terms to confuse) decline it - you want exchange in Thai Baht (or you get a very poor exchange rate). Bangkok Bank limit is 25k per pull (local or foreign if authorized). Believe many ATM's still only programed to allow 20k per pull from other banks.
  4. Has to be located in same province - sorry. https://www.bangkokbank.com/en/Personal/Cards/Be1st-Smart-Card
  5. Bangkok Bank? Very recent? I know that last time I tried I failed within Bangkok but was prior Covid.
  6. We are a Thai forum and we live in Thailand. So not sure what you are trying to say. As for coolant have only had one issue in more than 40 years.
  7. Believe you have misheard - cards can be obtained at any branch for some time now - but passbooks only at issuing branch.
  8. Shophouse 110-112 on Google Maps it seems. Open air if I am looking at it right - but for me that is a huge negative for drugs.
  9. True if: You send foreign currency for exchange in Thailand rather than using normal very bad baht rate in home country. Remember Wise exchange rate is normally higher than bank rate - there is no fee at Thai bank (other deposits attract 1/4 percent in range 200-500 baht normally) - there is no intermediate bank fee. So actual break even point may be a bit higher than it first appears - but yes larger amounts are often best to send direct SWIFT.
  10. An extreme blase attitude in my opinion - and I suspect there is more danger in eating at inside restaurants where you don't see the preparation and servings are often less than warm. Unless your street food is sushi perhaps.
  11. Check if drugs issued by hospital may be covered by your medical insurance. Suspect not if prescription drugs is a separate policy but in my case of FEP/BlueCross they can be paid on doctor/hospital bill or a separate claim from pharmacy (using different claims forms). There is normally no dental or vision insurance here.
  12. I suspect you will find ophthalmologists rather than optometrists at hospitals.
  13. Not sure what machines you mean but my hospital normal usage is computer image followed by air pressure as first line for everyone - followed by 20 foot test. Special test like computer visual field test is reserved for those with symptoms or high eye pressure (and an important test for glaucoma) and for IOL there is a measurement machine. Of course they have the normal prescription try/try again setup but that is about all that I have experienced. Did not consider any excessive or money makers. Or are you talking medical equipment in general rather than just for eyesight?
  14. Suspect use may be backup power rather than short term turn off? I have had no issues here in Bangkok with cheapest units as shut down and turn off within a few minutes. Higher cost unit with programmed shutdown would likely be useful for some locations or if not at home most of time. As work life required UPS/voltage regulators since 1966 really find current cheap units amazing and well worth the cost. I do not see a scam.
  15. Over priced at 1,500 baht or less? Which is all most users require - even if you do not change battery and replace unit every year or two seems cost effective to me. Computers can have issues with sudden power loss or voltage spikes. If using battery laptop probably not so important.
  16. Re-entry does not extend stay beyond the original 90 days permitted to stay however - you need a one year extension of stay to take advantage of "4 times a year or more".
  17. The key is the lot code number - found below the expiration date.
  18. Change the battery - they normally only last about 2 years before needing replacement. On many cheaper units very easy to change.
  19. Actually believe for the majority flood protection is a factor and the machine/livestock/hammock are uses. And having seen the countryside covered with water for weeks on end (including Bangkok some 30-40 years ago) consider it good planning. Over the years many have built down and have two story homes now but most have made bottom cement block so even if flooded clean up is minimal.
  20. The reason you found nothing is that Thailand is not a signatory of the agreement so no international notary service is available outside of some Embassies providing. That said there is a Thai system that is often accepted but no guarantee and many lawyers can provide. Perhaps be easier to just withdraw funds and let Bank worry about closing?
  21. And when the rains come blocks/concrete stand - drywall becomes mush and mildew heaven. The cost of block/concrete is still reasonable in Thailand and that is what most people know. Cheap to build. Few with skills to do cement construction and not cost competitive. Net result - homes that burn down - homes that rot away with rains - homes that are a total loss with floods. Drywall may be fine for second floor but ground floor in Thailand needs protecting from floods most places - there is a reason wood homes were built on stilts.
  22. Actually US Embassy tested tap water and bottled water more than 40 years ago and it was no contest - tap water was consistently better on Wireless Road. But there were distribution issues at some locations until all pipes were upgraded in the late 1900's. That a location could be contaminated (mostly due to neighbor pumping directly from mains or road work - or bad storage at apartments is always true however). What other cities provide real time internet access to water quality at multi locations? Not many I suspect. We use RO for taste (or removal of taste reasons). And yes most Thai will drink filtered water as they have grown up doing so (as most places are not Bangkok).
  23. We live in the computer age so indeed the internet is the storage for medical information just as for everything else although PDR is still published. In the old days do recall reading PDR (Physicians Desk Reference) for information on treatment when in Dacca/Dhaka during the war of 1971 as other than one expat Brit doctor (who was good) there was not much available. Had to fly India/Bangkok after war ended to have a tooth extracted.
  24. But this appears to be well in excess of full price for anyone. My quote a few years ago for bladder removal and ileal conduit at government hospital in Bangkok was about 80k - at major private hospital actual cost was a bit over 1 million (over 10x the price). It just does not compute that price of this surgery upcountry would be almost 50% of cost estimate at major private hospital in Bangkok even if paying for procedure. Surgery cost is normally a tiny fraction on government bill but seems to be listed as 95k on this bill.
