Same reason most places developed, covered in concrete, asphalt & buildings all draining to the same areas. The rains have nowhere to go (naturally into the earth/ground) but simply follows the poorly managed channeling to clogged storm drains.

The REAL EV vehicle discussion thread.....
KhunLA replied to transam's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Wow, he actually said something positive about EVs, and in the MG ZS EV linked early on. Didn't realize electric (grid) was so expensive in OZ. Takes a while longer for that ROI vs petrol there. -
In Your Opinion: What's the best place for living in Thailand?
KhunLA replied to 2009's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Kamala Beach: Far less tourist than big 3; patong karon kata not full of box bar or sextourist/sexpats Lovely less polluted beach during high season, as less developed. Residential area on the other side of main road A few nice restaurants, fair priced, surfside in the one section of. -
Thailand buys military drones from Israel "to keep the sea safe"

That's the most practical thing they've purchased of late. No need for new Gulfstreams, F35s or subs -

After Texas Sent Him to Washington, One Migrant Launches a New Life
KhunLA replied to Scott's topic in World News
Yes, all crossing their home country border have escaped their 'oppression', crossing country after country to Mexico, and no longer being oppressed. But seeking asylum ... ???? $$$$$$$$ is all they want. Can't blame them, but, they are criminals as soon as they cross the border. IMHO And if he didn't find a job, what other crime was he willing to commit while in USA for $$$ Be interesting to know what job he is working. Is it McD @ $15 an hour, or $25 an hour job, paying an immigrant less/$15, and a US citizen isn't working now at a decent wage, who's worked & paid taxes for a few decades, or a new graduate, carrying $100k college debt. Are those employers really facing worker shortages, or simply not paying the going rate, because they know immigrants are available. Hard to blame either, employer or worker, but US citizens should come first, as that is what they pay taxes for. Instead, they are footing the bill to lose better wages. -
They dropped the Deye 5kW for 1 phase still showing the 10kW for 3 phase Guess my 8kW on 1 phase won't be getting registered anytime soon ????

Marrying a 17 year old Thai girl in the village
KhunLA replied to Adumbration's topic in Marriage and Divorce
That never happens either ... just another day on planet earth. Although, they may surprise everyone, as all thought I was a LPOS when young, well, I still am, but that didn't stop me from retiring early. -
"Thai monks are meant to be celibate and shun earthly possessions." Don't know any that follow that. What cult realistically expects their members to be celibate. Expecting the impossible.

For the Yanks, mailed late afternoon on the 5th Sept, got email stating packed and awaiting ThaiPost to pick up at Embassy. If it gets here Monday, then 3 week turn around. Impressive

What ever you end up getting, make sure it will take a non proprietary battery, BL-50 or something along those lines.

Yep ... that's the problem. I just threw 5 devices out, 3 were phones, just for that reason. Why I bought last year, one of the last phones with a removeable battery. Seems that's the new marketing, since they really can't improve the specs, so they make the batteries user 'unfriendly'. Past phones were replaced for better specs. Last 2 were replaced because no replacement battery available. New one has large battery, and I baby it.

I personally haven't noticed any shortages, anywhere. Makro or local fresh market, compared to pre covid, or any time earlier. Everything & anything I want is available. Aside from inflation, season price fluctuations, and an occasionally price gouge on fake headliners, then they at are back to normal. That just the same marketing I've seen over the 20+ years here, and everywhere. Where's all these shortages ? I'm not even near a metro area, and everything is still available here.

AND ... does that mean you would or do buy, or you Anti China ?

I believe the tracks have been laid, all the way down to where I am, PKK municipality, Amphur Muang & beyond. Actually for quite some time, as work had stopped long ago. Just an inspection before using, and a trial run, would be needed. BUT ... many U-turn bridges for vehicles are not completed. The one just below PKK railway station is not, and would need to be, before high speed line ventured any further southward. That u-turn is at a major (local) intersection that could not be closed off, and I doubt if they would operate with just crossing gates & signal man. Though realistically, the train wouldn't be building up any speed anyway, as the station is only 1.2 kms away. So reality, would be feasible, but an accident would really be 'bad PR', and best avoided. This sat photo, doesn't look that much different than today. Pretty much the same at next southward u-turn bridge @ Khlong Wan

I told the wife to get the cheapest insurance policy from her cousin, that had 1 mill coverage. In 50 some years of driving, I've yet to need any auto insurance, and find it a complete waste of money. But since folks here enjoy committing suicide on other folks vehicles, and I'm usually driving, <9k a year is good insurance for 'my safety' since in a foreign country ... ???? If in USA, I wouldn't bother.

Foreigners infected with COVID-19 can visit Thailand
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The mindset has also changed, as people actually think for themselves. From 'death floating in the air' ... to ... 'what, positive ... I had covid, and didn't even know it'. Downgraded to nothing more than common cold or flu, if even having symptoms ... for healthy people. IMHO -
Read the " FINE PRINT " of every policy. Major thing to look for, beside ฿฿฿ amount covered, is who will do the repairs/body work. Dealers or subbed out to independent contractors, using clone parts. The lower price (from Roojai) I posted about earlier, subs out to '500 shops countrywide' ... not necessarily the auto dealers. Depending where you live and brand of car, it may make a huge difference. Only been in a few, but yet to see a MG dealer with a paint & body shop. Larger Toyota dealers do have, as I've used in Udon Thani. Where I am, I don't think any dealer has. Not saying independent shop can't, won't do an excellent job, but does give you more options. And dealer will, should use manufacturer's replacement parts. I've had work done at both, and excellent results from both. I've seen work from other shops, and not so good.
