  1. Honda Wave 125i max load was coincidentally, 125 kgs, so wife & myself just over max most of the time. Probably at max now, as I shed a few. New e-scooter I bought is 200 kg, though guessing will affect range more than performance.
  2. PHN - postherpetic neuralgia / neuropathic pain, and will flare up from not at all, if really lucky, or unlucky like me, and it hangs around for 5-10 to various degree of annoyance. For myself, half way down my rib cage, from center of back around to chest, return of initial pain, but much less so, although enough to keep you away and da mn annoying. That being the nerve it 'attacked'. That was, unfortunately for couple years. Then finally subsiding a few years later. Occasionally have a minor flare up, just noticing it, and not sure what sets it off. Just feels likes someone pushing their thumb in my side. Would kick in mostly at night time when trying to relax. Not noticed most of the other times of day. Seems to be the thing with nerve 'disruption', as I've had back issues, and they only throbbed / bothered me when at rest also. Good news for me, it was a nerve along the rib cage, although the feeling of having a heart attack would definitely freak most out. Actually better to attack there than on the optic nerve, as couldn't image that pain, and may force someone to end the pain a bit more drastic. I luckily had a bunch of valiums with me at the initial time, though TBH, didn't help much with the pain, but enough to eventual knock my butt out ???? I read everyone has varying degree and length (months - years - forever) discomfort. Only plus, once having shingles, extremely rare to get again. Hint for you mature folks, if you hear about any local kids with chicken pox, go share a meal, drink from the same glass, get coughed & sneezed on, as guessing that's a great immune booster against shingles in the future. They do have an extremely expensive, mixed review vaccine for it. If wanting to go that route.
  3. Surprised only shy of 21% considering most prefer to complain on forum, along with most that are very happy with Thailand, probably aren't bored enough to visit AN or care about such a survey if members.???? I only visit such threads, if really bored, along with 'what 3 countries' would you go to, as no plans on leaving, but popped in just for the hell of it.
  4. Take a peek at the EM-3, sold at most HomePros, on sale for ฿19k at the moment. Also DECO offers an ebike, about same price. Saw one on LAZ, really cheap (7k), good specs, 450w, 48v20Ah, but skeptical, 50 good review, 5 ish not so. Actually don't know how they can sell so cheap. All the rest seem to be rebranded 250w 12Ah batteries. I researched about converting my Schwinn to E, using bafang motor kit, and simply not worth it, as can buy already done, and get the new bike frame / all in, with it @ BkkBike: https://www.bkkebike.com/ For the same price of the higher end ebikes at BkkBike, you can get a e-scooter at DECO, which is the way I went instead.
  5. Depends what one considers successful. Better than the abysmal failure of the sandboxes, one would hope. Generate 1 million arrivals a month for the rest of high season 2021/22, very doubtful. Enough to motivate investors to re-open or take over closed business, very doubtful. All that without a future oops or yet another step backward / change in policy ... doubtful. I personally can't see them getting 1 m a month till high season 2022/23.
  6. Saw that model on display at the mall yesterday, looking quite nice. ENJOY
  7. Pre-virus it was high to start, take away income, and no surprise. Wiki stats (2019) puts it about midway on the worldwide scale. Not to go off topic, but USA has one of the highest rates of the G20. Russia & S. Korea a bit worse. Another site, w/interactive map, a bit more friendly to Thailand: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/suicide-rate-by-country
  8. Need to be at least 175cm tall, (5'9") or long inseam (I'm not), as not designed for short folks, surprisingly. Priced ฿40k & up https://decogreenenergy.com/index.php/th/product-deco/electric-motorcycles
  9. I only have experience with 2 countries. Both excellent, 1 affordable, 1 unaffordable (actually cost more if you have health insurance). One reason I chose Thailand to retire, and not the USA.
  10. No longer needs to be done through NY branch. Just go to BkkBank here, open an account, forward the info to Manilla Embassy / SS division, and it's done.
  11. Pros? ... simple, easy, direct, automatic, no thought or planning needed, and provides all the banking / financial paperwork for visa extensions. Cons? ... none
  12. Screw that. I know how I'm dying, quickly in an accident, in my sleep, or suicide ... ????
  13. Yea, I'm kind of there myself. Certainly done more than I originally thought I would as a youngin'. Did all the thrill seeking things I chose, thrill / danger assessment. Did more than enough stupid things, and amazing I didn't kill myself. Quite enjoying my 'winding down', and don't think I missed out on anything. Think if a multi multi USD millionaire, I'd bore myself to death after the first year of frivolous silliness. Actually though I was dying a few years back, in the middle of nowhere, and hours from any hospital that could actually help. Thought I was having the big one, made sure the wife knew all my pins / passwords, and was quite relaxed with the thought of cra pping out. Hours of chest pains passed, and now can say, I know what bad night of shingles feels like ... ???????????? The residuals for 5+ yrs was annoying.
  14. 60 a day, that's a lot. System to be installed on our house, very shortly, 7.5kws w/6kw battery (for overnight), is going to run about ฿345k. Expecting it to provide about 25-35 units a day. Requires 40 m2 of roof for panels (17 / 455w). I would expect PEA Bills at this house to run 3k - 5k a month, so about 5.5 - 9.5 yr ROI. More abusive AC use, quicker ROI.
  15. Yea, KP is a province needing a few more ???? Although if living there, you charge up at home. If traveling through, plan wisely, or a friendly guesthouse with your own long extension cord.????
  16. Actually at same or less cost, than being on the grid & ICEs. Thailand now has an extensive charging station network, though may be a bit lacking if most had EVs for long distance driving. Those that do now, and shop at Central mall / Robinsons along with others get free charging while at the mall. Lack of EV ownership numbers keeps availability open now. Was at Paseo mall yesterday and 3 or 5 bays for charging, all empty, but free while shopping. We still have an ICE / MG ZS, and if not only 1 yr old, would consider changing to an EV. E-scooter now for my everyday, wasteful driving to park & surf. Could easily walk or ride bicycle to both. Keep the MG for heavy shopping and long haul out & about such as now. Don't want a saleng / side cart on the scooter, as will take the fun out of driving it. Next car will be EV, as simply makes sense, financially and environmentally, if believing in such a thing. I actually don't, except for the air pollution aspect of it. The planet is fine, and will 'refresh' itself, once it sheds itself of parasitic humans. Figure man has a few generation or 5 before they self destruct.
  17. It does if you make it so. Easily done, to power your home & EV with solar.
  18. Yes, they made a choice to leave the UK & free healthcare behind when they left. Same with pension increases. It's in the not so small print. Now cry about their choice. Did they write / lobby the gov't to change the policy before or after leaving, or just come to AN to cry about their choice.
  19. Apples and oranges. Do the Hamptons look like a slum and have a beach most wouldn't swim in. Pier restaurants that smell of the sewage below on low tide.....I think not.
  20. Most things are an estimate. As everyone's driving style will differ, along with proper maintenance/charging of the batteries. Your / human's life expectancy is an estimate. Mid 70's now, but people die at year 1 and others live to 100. The e-scooter I just bought, gives me 3 yrs warranty on motor, 2 on battery & 1 on the controller. Honda gives you what for a warranty. Since I'm well experienced with Lithium batteries, I expect to get about 800-1000 cycles of full charges. Then probably 500 at least of 80 % or less. Should last 5-10 yrs, depending on use, how many days the weather is good. Since I'm going solar, basically free charging. Though the estimate cost if not solar for a full charge is 5 baht. That's good for an estimate 100-150 range on full charge @ 35 kph. So I'll get the low end of that, as 50 kph is my average / usual around the village & to and from the surf. 40 kms a day, if I do my usual 2 long circuits, so charge every 3 days if lucky, 2 if not. 1000 cycle X 2 = 2000 days / 365 = 5.5 yrs, but figure 1/3 a year it's rainy or I might not use, so add 1/3 more, and we're at about 7-8 years for the battery charging at 100 % Few more years at 80%. 10 yrs use on negative side of the numbers. New batteries will be better and cheaper in 10 years. For me, it's a no-brainer, and I really like the power of the scooter. Off the line nothing will touch it, mid is great, top end is limited, but staying under 90 kph will keep me alive ???? Riding around now in the car, I don't catch myself doing much more than 60 any more. It will be me and dog on the scooter, which is 90% of the car driving, doing our 2 daily rounds of park & surf sniffin', and leaving a land mine here and there.
  21. Still here ... nuff said I can be happy just about anywhere.
