  1. If there ever are more fair peace talks, most likely Ukraine will end up needing to accept some occupation of their lands without ever acknowledging that as legal, final, or legitimate. That gives them hope of reversal 50 years from now which isn't unheard of. But they'll never give up lands that Russia hasn't already occupied. But we're nowhere even close to Russia offering a fair deal.
  2. Russia won't agree to any real security guarantees. This peace "negotiation" is basically finished already. Trump's idiotic mistake was pushing for talks prematurely before doing what needed to be done to further weaken Russia with more arms aid for Ukraine and crushing secondary sanctions. That's the only way Putin will ever enter talks fairly. He needs to be forced. Instead he has a poodle in Washington.
  3. He will if he thinks he'll get away with it. A Russian missile deep into Poland yesterday. Poland responds with a stern toothless letter. That's weak and Putin is all about exploiting weakness.
  4. That's absurd. Putin doesn't want peace. He wants surrender. For Ukraine to give up large parts of land Russia hasn't even occupied would be insane and they won't do it. Russia has gained about 1 percent more land in 1000 days! On the other hand Ukraine is rapidly chipping away at Russia's oil refining capacity. There is much more to this war than the front lines. Ukraine has cards.
  5. He may indeed be a "bad" f-rang but I think as expats we should be favoring fair treatment for all involved in such "international incident" tragedies. Obviously justice for the victim and her family but also reasonably fair and equal to Thais treatment in the justice system for the accused. It seems as if he's probably be going to be treated worse just for being a foreigner. No foreigner here should think that's a good thing.
  6. They might. Caving to Putin means they definitely won't. Putin doesn’t want peace. He wants surrender.
  7. They won't have a country if they cave to Putin's demands
  8. He never learns or develops his position. He doesn't have a set strategy. People who have worked with him closely and later speak freely all say he' influenced by the last person he spoke to. That's insane. It's insane that he has all that power. But tragically he does.
  9. I think it's obvious that if Putin can't end this war by either clearly winning militarily or a settled end which he can't sell as a win for Russia, that he'd be in big trouble regarding his power, his wealth, and probably his life. But if he succeeds in getting the surrender that he seeks, he would probably be fine. (But Russia will pay the price for generations regardless.) So Putin is NOT going to ever accept any kind of deal that he can't sell as a win.
  10. Yeah but nothing lasts forever.
  11. Good thing to wonder about. I don't really know. I reckon it would vary widely and like in a lot of countries being wealthy, having the best lawyers, part of the elite would tend to help a lot. A better question might be a typical penalty for a similar crime involving middle class Thais. Assuming he's guilty, he made a massive mistake and his mistake directly resulting in a death. However, it's obvious that killing someone wasn't premeditated and wasn't the intention. I don't know what a "fair" punishment should be for that.
  12. Of course he is. Bottom line -- Trump has made things WORSE. He loves the big show for his own insane hungry for Nobel prize SELFISH reasons, but at the end of the day, all he's done, again and again and again is to throw a spanner in any realistic plan to actually pressure Putin to a real negotiation. Pretty every toddler that has been paying attention that Putin does NOT want peace. But Trump's dumber than a typical toddler. He wants total control of Ukraine and he's a master at playing on Trump's bizarre affection for him (and all dictators). There is a way to force Putin into giving up his maximalist goals. Trump has done the total OPPOSITE.
  13. Trump continues to stand with Putin.
  14. If agreeing with useful idiocy for genocidal war criminal dictator Putin is grown up, thanks but no thanks.
  15. Putin thanks you.
