  1. +1 Pot Player works well and plays anything
  2. In 28 years, unprovoked attacks never, provoked attacks just one - about ten years ago in Bangkok, a very large, very drunk Russian looking for a fight, got one. I hasten to add I was just a spectator. .
  3. I thought when the name was italicised it meant they were in the process of replying.
  4. They've revamped (and totally screwed up) the Thai Met Office website. You used to be able to get the rainfall stats for the last 24hrs in 3hr intervals and the stats for the last 7 days. That was for the weather stations at Hat Yai Airport and Kho Hong. Now you can't find anything much apart from a 7 day forecast. The Hat Yai flood alert website is working, with most of the cameras functioning, that does have the radar images. https://www.hatyaicityclimate.org/ .
  5. Not exactly. Wise is a peer to peer money mover, it works with partner banks in each country it 'transfers' money to. They match transactions, such that someone in the UK wanting to deposit Thai Baht into a Thai account, is matched with transactions in Thailand looking to deposit GBP into a UK accounts. No money is actually transferred from one country to the other. Both Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn act as partners, though now Dee Money (another peer to peer fintech) is the partner I most often see on my Wise transaction receipts. .
  6. I get the same, unless it is someone I know, I just block them.
  7. It isn't.
  8. That might be a can of worms they'd prefer wasn't opened.
  9. It's been suggested that the relatively low mortality rates for Covid in SE Asia is probably because bats have long been in the local diet, so the population has had prior exposure to bat viruses.
  10. Could see the moon and eclipse this evening in Hat Yai - no rain for a change so no drama keeping the candle alight on the kratong.
  11. It's an American term, they're strange over there.
  12. It's actually dry tonight for Loy Kratong which makes a change. You could even see the moon and the eclipse.
  13. Big-C Extra I almost had to fight my way to get to shampoo today; Head & Shoulders 410ml twin pack for Bht199 had Malaysians swarming.
  14. Maybe he was visiting his mother-in-law whilst in Hat Yai.
  15. It was a single town in the Thai province of Monthon Syburi until the Anglo-Siamese treaty of 1909 when Thailand ceded Kedah and Perlis to British Malaya. This left Padang Besar straddling an international border.
  16. Well the question was about visiting tourist areas, and you would accept a large proportion of tourists going to Pattaya do so for the entertainment.
  17. In the 28 years I've known Thailand I've visited Pattaya just 3 times. It's OK for a lad's weekend but I can't say it appeals to me as somewhere to live. Though that holds for most popular tourist resorts in Thailand, fine for a holiday but wouldn't wish to live there.
  18. Stealing no, just salvage and tidying the beach up.
  19. It's one of my favourite times of the year in Hat Yai, bring on the rain.
  20. I renewed mine online from Thailand at the start of the year. Provided you're under 70 you can have them use the photo in your current passport. My brother posted the licence out to me. All done in two weeks. Back on subject I have a Monzo account that just needed passport and utility bill, I used my council tax bill. No issues with using the app or debit card in Thailand.
  21. You'd need a shovel, half the members are six foot under, the rest of us are one foot in the grave.
  22. Agree with both. The McGuigans red is also good, the red label is a red blend, the black label a merlot. Available from Big C. The 19 Crimes shiraz I like, the red blend is good too, not tried the cabernet. Available from Villa Market, Tops and Big C.
