Retirement extension dilemma

Featured Replies

How do I do this?

I visit the UK in late September and will get the last 90 day stamp on my non-imm O multi entry in early October.

My visa expires on October 10th.

On October 16th I go to Kuala Lumpur on a family trip.

If I have to wait until the final 30 days of the stamp then I can't do the extension before going to KL but when I come back I'd only get the normal 30 day stamp on arrival back in Thailand!

Most options are flawed:

I can't extend before the UK as the money hasn't been in the bank long enough.

I could extend my trip and go to Penang and get another annual multi-entry. The problem here would be that my bank statement would be out of date!

I could get a single 90 day Non-Imm O at KL, assuming they don't do multi-entries. The problem there is that I'm leaving the country again prior to the final 30 days of that particular visa! Can I get a re-entry permit to keep that visa valid? If so that might work. But would KL need an up to date bank statement? The reason I ask is that I'm staying well outside the city on the first couple of days.

I thought of a tourist visa from KL then try to get a multi non-imm O from Sydney, but I'm not sure this would work as I'm a UK national, plus I believe it takes three days and I'm not there long enough.

I return on a 30 day stamp then go to Penang a couple of weeks later and get a new annual non-imm.

Finally, is it possible that Phuket Immigration might be OK with an early extension if I show them I'm travelling?

Any ideas? Anyone?

You could get a single re-entry permit (1000 baht fee) to keep the remainder of you your 90 day entry valid when your return form your trip. Then apply for the one year extension.

That sounds perfect. Thanks Joe. I'll need two re-entry permits as I'll leave the country twice during the 60 days after my entry from the UK. I assume this is OK.

Extension in December though. Peak time in Phuket! Better than the other options though.

You can get as many re-entry permits as you want to for the 90 day entry. There is no limit.

You could also apply for a new ME Non Imm O Visa whilst in the UK.

That would give you as many entries as you require, and time for your funds to 'seed'.

You can do an extension within the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries.

You don't have to wait until the Visa is expiring.

I think I'd need an OA visa and all the hassle that would entail. The re-entry permit option will work fine. Thanks.

You can update your bank statement via ATM on the spot when at Chaeng Wattana.  I always do this on the morning of the extension.

Why are you asking people here.  Go to immigration and ask them.  They will give you the correct answers.

Please look at the name of this website. And maybe the title of this forum.

Is that just one visit to Immigration, flopping down 2000 baht for two single re-entries? Or would they insist that more than one re-entry requires the 3800 baht 'multiple re-entry' version? (Or come back on a second visit, after your first re-entry, to obtain a second re-entry permit.)

No

You can only have on re-entry permit at a time. You have to go back to apply for the 2nd one after using the first one.

And yet he's received useful advice here without having to travel to an immigration office. Armed with the suggestions he's been given he'll be better able to approach immigrations with an informed idea of what is needed when it's time to proceed ... unlike some people who go to immigrations without a clue, struggle to communicate their problem to an officer whose English is a tad less than fluent and consequently clog up the queue delaying service for everyone else.

I asked them about the new chaos around TM30 and got 3 different answers from 3 different officials!

Just buy the multiple entry re-entry permit. Good for the whole year of your extention. It costs 3500 (?).

Hello !! Earth calling, you must have been laughing to yourself when you posted that nonsense.

If you were serious.... You got a problem, no 2 immigration officers in the same office will give you the same answer to the same question.

That would be true if he already had an annual extension, but apparently at this point he's waiting to apply for an annual extension and would only have  a 90 day non-imm O entry. Any re-entry permit he gets, single or multiple, will expire on the same date as his current permission to stay.
