Man Found Hanging From Tree On Srinagarindra Road Median

BANGKOK — The body of a man was found hanging from a tree in middle of a road median early Monday morning in Suan Luang district.

 

Police and rescue officials arrived at 5:50am at the intersection between Krung Thep Kritha and Srinagarindra Roads, after a street sweeper alerted authorities that the body of man was hanging from a tree branch on the median.

“I believe it was a suicide, because it happened in the middle of the road. Nobody would kill someone else in the middle of the road,” Col. Saksit Meesawat of Hua Mak police station said.

He might want to revisit that statement.

That happens to be the precise point where the new Sky Train construction is taking place crossing Sririnagarindra. At that time of the morning, it is still fairly dark and traffic comparatively light. But being on the median strip, I can't see how there would have been no witnesses, or possibly film. There are food stalls, etc. in the process of setting up all around that vicinity and people en route towards them at the time he was found. I know the area fairly well. Not far from Suan Luang. If it was a suicide, at least subconsciously the victim was likely hoping he'd be spotted, albeit probably before actual death. Which makes this a particularly sad event, as it was no doubt a desperate plea for a sympathetic response in a fairly apathetic environment. This is, for the most part, a bleak part of town. Conversely, if he was strung up by someone else, it could be considered a supremely risky choice of locations, due to visibility. Which might signify that it was meant as a brazen warning to others. For what? I couldn't tell you and don't really want to know. On the other hand, hanging does not automatically imply hanged, either. Regardless, a bad day in a neighborhood that happens to be one of my favorites. RIP.
