An 82 year old Chiang Rai woman died yesterday after her front gate fell on her.

Neighbors rushed to her aid to perform CPR but could not save her.

Police who arrived at the house in Soi Samakhee, Muang district of Chiang Rai found a heavy five meter by two meter metal gate on its side.

Jandee Paengla, 82, was already dead.

Neighbor Wilaiporn Jaisom said she was passing yesterday morning and saw the gate lying on Jandee. She called others to help but five minutes of CPR was in vain.

Jandee, she said, was home alone as both her children were out at work.

PIL's house got this big ramshackle sliding gate made of wood, metal and faith. Old man built it himself decades ago, and at the time, it was a source for pride. We've explored and offered replacing it several times, he'd hear nothing of it. Current argument is that there's no point investing as he (FIL, not the gate) won't be around much longer yada yada yada. Well, at least when the family goes on about it he calls a guy to make some repairs. We still avoid parking the car anywhere near.
