Alert: Chiang Mai cooks.....

Featured Replies

Those of us who love to cook know the value of a good cast iron pan.

Unfortunately, they have been hard to find in Chiang Mai... until now!

I just saw three different sizes (up to 12") heavy-duty cast iron frying pans in

Rimping Nim City. I didn't look at the prices, but I did carefully examine one of the pans.

This IS a very heavy, thick, well-made cast iron frying pan!  Bound to be expensive,

but worth the price.

They are located on the bottom level of the pan display. A bit hard to notice without a careful look.

Thanks for posting this!

I sadly bid my cast iron pans--some passed down two generations--some diligently used/seasoned by me over months and years--upon my move here.

Big mistake.

My pans and a few more books should have made the sea-journey...

Oh well:  hindsight.

It's great to know where I can find one or two to start the task of seasoning them .

I've always used a very hot oven as a way to seal new cast iron...don't know how I'll do that now w/o an oven...

Maybe I can hire a pizza kitchen to keep them oiled up and sizzling hot for a fortnight...hmm..(!).

Again, thanks for your "pan posting."  Made my day.

Bought one cheap in Aldi Australia on my recent stay there ..Could not bring it back or it would have put me over my baggage limit  ;-(

Don't they have cast iron pots and pans in Wararot market?  I haven't been there for a while but I'm sure I saw some there a while ago.

Once seasoned, cast iron pots/skillets are great.

How many seasons required ? Only 3 here in Chiang Mai Dry ,Wet ,and Winter .

Rim Ping (Promenada) now stock a range of Le Creuset cast iron pans.
Very expensive but if taken care of will out last most of us. Nice bright orange colour to...
