Recycling plant hit by second fire in a week

By The Nation

A rubber and plastic recycling plant in Samut Songkram province on Thursday caught fire for the second time within a week.

Police said the fire at the factory, owned by a Taiwanese businessman, started at 2am. Ten fire engines took almost two hours to contain the blaze.

The factory is located on a one-rai plot in Tambon Nadee in Samut Songkram’s Muang district.

The fire started amid a pile of rubber and plastic sheets in the centre of the factory and spread to the back. The roof at the front of the factory had already collapsed after the first blaze on September 7.

Firefighters said the blaze could be reignited because the burned plastic, foam and rubber had melted and may have prevented the fire under the pile from being completely put out. They said the entire pile would have to be removed to prevent more fires.
