I have only stayed in a few different hotels in Barretto but i think the best value for money one is the Coffee Shop, Roof Garden (opposite Arizona)  This place also has a restaurant which is very popular with the locals, food is OK and pretty good value.

Speaking for myself I have never been to the phils but am thinking about it.

Of those you mentioned I thought Vietnam was OK, cheapenough but a bit bland. Myanmar briefly - shithole but others may differ. Cambodia OK just not quite Thailand. Never fancied China. Been to Laos many times always enjoyed it, nearly moved there, but kast time it had changed and just wasn't the same.

It's because the two countries are very similar in their cultural attitudes to easy sex.

PI infrastructure is a little worse, and the PI women are a little smaller.

Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Laos ......... commie countries, totally different.

Just been reading a thread in General Topics about being ripped off in a Thai bar. Worth a mention that nearly all bars i have frequented in Phils write out and present a slip to you and many insist you sign on each drink purchase. On a slightly different note iin Cebu at both the Port and the Airport, a taxi official was handing out slips advising of  your rights when using a taxi, that a meter should be used and a number to call if you had a complaint. To me is a sign that they are trying to move in the right direction re tourists!

Thailand is by far a better country to live than the Philippines.......BUT........Pilipinas make far better wives.......Not all but most.

So many arrived for the scenery the diving the adventure but ended up staying for no other reason than the pussy........Asian pussy baby the sweetest in the world.......So many foreigners came for a holiday with their wives, big percentage of those marriages were ruined......SOUTH EAST ASIAN Woman........pretty hard to beat.........

Good question.  Why not compare to Singapore?  Besides the obvious cost difference.

My first experience with asia and asian women was life changing.  30 years later I moved here and although I sometimes miss the home country I stay.  I prefer the look and attitude of asian women, especially the buddhist countries.

I am Caucasian but find Asian ladies to be more compatible. It is similar to turning back the hands of time by decades.

However my opinion of the Philippines is that it is the worst place in Asia.

I was there during the Marcos regime.

Cebu was OK.

In summary, I couldn't leave the place quick enough.
