Yes?

When is a better time?

I'm pretty sure the gun the nutter used is already very much illegal.

There is still a chance he was brainwashed by the IS but it seems unlikely a 64 year old would do that . But it was well planned , that's for sure.  He was a loner , aren't they all ?

he probably felt that he had been <deleted> over by society and decided to take deadly revenge on anyone before leaving.

They also have a legal responsibility for security and keeping customers safe...I know out of their control...but that's why they are required to buy big insurance policies before getting approval for such an event.

If the gunman got into the stadium with his hardware, and started shooting people, yes, the promoter, or stadium' security is at fault, and they should be held responsible. But to blame them for someone opening fire on the crowd from a hotel that overlooked the stadium I think is being very unreasonable, and would NEVER be upheld in a court of law, and the only concerts or sporting events that would be held would be in the middle of the Sahara Desert!

It's all guessing now. But my guess he was depressed, getting older, and decided to go out with a blast and finally "make a name" for himself. It seems clear he was planning to try to beat the record for American mass shootings. Of course, he couldn't know for sure if he did, but I bet he had a good idea that he had.

Ironic that his brother lives in Orlando ...

site of the last super big mass shooting.

There's always an excuse.

Something is very rotten in the American system that this keeps happening again and again there.

Believe me when I say this, they will be named as co-defendants in lawsuits and their insurance carrier WILL pay out.

In those 3 days I would bet the maid cleaned the room and failed to notice 10 rilfes ? And if she did not gain entry because of do not disturb signs...then security should have been notified as resident's safety in question for 3 days.

In most hotels it is not unusual for the maids not being able to get in a room for days...

it happens more or less everywhere, but more frequent in the USA.

I would be interested to know if statistically the excess frequency can be fully explained by the sheer amount of population, loners with money and the difficulty of controlling such a big territory as the USA.

I don't hope so, it will be very unfair to all future organizers who will have to pay inflated premiums.

I don't say though that nobody should pay - as this was public ground, the taxpayer should pay.

Perhaps, but I find that unusual, and in Las Vegas it would definitely be a note to security would that be the case.

This tragedy shows that anyone can bring a suitcase loaded with weapons up to a hotel room , and start a mass shooting. They really need to tighten up the security after this , with metal detectors etc.

Taxpayer ? Why the hell should I pay ? These were for profit events and businesses with commercial insurance...I'm not paying a damn cent

definitely not.

security screening for going into a hotel room?

hello?

global paranoia, bye bye privacy?

the terrorists win or what?

Posted (edited)

If the murderer sincerely gave allegience to ISIS, this could be a lesson to the global haters that terrorists do not have a specific colour or a race - just a matter of inner human madness....

And what to say about the usual NRA replique stating "guns don't kill but people do...?"

To what extent will a ban to gun possession solve such carnage?

If gun bans are only statewide and not nationwide, one could seriously have doubts on the efficiency...

RIP to the victims

nice display of solidarity !

the reason behind it is that the state is there for a reason.

if all risks are always covered by insurance, at the end things will be so expensive that only few people will be able to afford them.

No, I don't believe you when you say it, and before we get any further into this, because it is such a tragedy, in the name of decency, I think we should call it a day, and agree to differ, therefore :mfr_closed1:

Well , change the US gun laws and there would be no need for it.  Or do something , I am sure a lot of people will avoid Vegas and crowded areas after this.

I have been looking at options for places to live in the U.S. One of the features of living near Vegas is that they have lots of open air cultural events, concerts, etc. often right on the strip near the hotels.

I wonder if that's over.

Yes?

When is a better time?

When the topic is off the front pages?

I know, I know, zero chance of anything changing.

Even when there was a massacre of school children by a known mentally ill person, nothing could be changed. Sick!

I this had been an air crash, NTSB would have had a full investigation and things would change so it could not happen again.

But there will be no changes to gun control, Trump called it pure evil, but the real evil is the politicians who take the NRA money not to do anything.

Yes, exactly.

At least Obama tried.

But nobody can take on the NRA. EVER it seems.

After the massacre at the elementary school that became crystal clear.

They're be lots of "closing the gate after the horses escape" mentality. Already I hear pundits lecturing about how dangerous high-rise hotels are near open-air concerts....

Why...great for gun companies...stocks all up today. They make more when everyone is terrified.

I feel that you are close to the truth. Plenty of suicides in this country turn into murder-suicides. I think they should practice on killing themselves first, before turning their guns on others.

That post was tongue-in-cheek. Lowering one's self is a sign of respect whether you're a flag or a person.

OK, so what he meant was that the football players kneeling were showing a sign of respect .

Seems many are missing the point ,,,

do you have any idea of 'how much it cost'

to purchase that weapon 'illegally'.

AND

how much 'each round cost'.

I guesstamate $70,000 USD.

I am most likely low on this estimate.

This does not inc. the room, nor travel

So how did this fool get funded ???

According to the news, he was a retired accountant, had invested in some apartments, and owned a private plane.  He didn't seem to be hurting for funds.

Firstly there are devices that can simulate automatic fire with a semi-automatic....maybe about $300 bucks. Very common among gun nuts...and legal.

secondly...the guy had money...he owned 2 small planes also..and was an accountant for the aerospace industry before retirement....he also liked to gamble which likely explains his connection with the high stakes hostess from Mandalay and his relocation to LV after retirement. A quick check into his finances for gambling debts  if any, will tell a tale if there is one.

BTW...the authorities have cleared his GF because they contacted her and she is out of the country at the time.
