It's unlikely any of us run across even the smallest percentage of farangs in Thailand, so concluded most farang who come here are poor quality is agenda driven speculation. And yet most of the farang you actually encounter out and about seem quite capable of engaging in intelligent conversation, seldom if ever visit the bars or stumble about intoxicated, seem to be living a comfortable existence, don't feel compelled to disparage Thais and manage immigrations effortlessly. Many of those who complain about farang or Thais make their observations by themselves frequenting places that attract sex tourists and those Thais who end up "dealing" with them. I agree there are plenty of farang slobs about, especially in areas bound to attract that sort, but they developed their social skills and bizarre behavior back in Farang Land and they are representative of similar percentages of their home populations and they may be better quality examples of their cohort than those they left behind since they at least could manage the airfare to get here. So based on that one might make the equally specious argument that Farang Land produces an inordinate number of perverted dullards ... and I think that would equally unfair. If the low-lives stand out in supermarkets, high end hotels, quality restaurants and malls, it's because they are the exception to the rule that most farang in those environments do comport themselves fairly decently. If one spends most of his time on Walking Street or in the Gogo bars and such venues, you'e likely to come away with the impression that a high percentage of both Farang and Thais are not the sort you'd want to bring home to meet Mom. 5 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am a professional engineer, I don't do anything illegal. I don't do drugs. I have no criminal background of any type. I was a commissioned officer in the military. I am quite well off financially. I don't abuse the locals, I don't show off anything or berate or belittle anybody when I am there on holiday. I dress decently, albeit not name brand polo shirts. Seriously, I do only go shirtless at home ( excluding the obvious beach, waterfall or lake etc ), in the house or garden, if anyone comes, whether it family, a delivery, or the ice cream or soup man, I always throw a shirt on to go the 5 steps to the gate to accept visitors.
