The Department of Geology has warned people living close to mountains in Chiang Rai and Uttradit to watch out for landslides due to ongoing heavy rains for the past couple of days.

Mr Niwat Maneekhat, deputy director-general of Geology Department , said Thursday that the department was concerned with the prospect of landslides due to heavy rains and had coordinated with its public disaster prevention networks to monitor the rainfall and to warn the people of potential danger from landslides.

Oh there is so much going on with this statement, and I'm struck between wanting to laugh my ass off and acting incredulous.

Landslides usually happen because people have cut all the trees that used to stabilise the soil, and they affect people that have built in places they should not have.

Self inflicted methinks.

Very heavy rain for most of the night up here wont improve the situation.
