Furniture in a house for rent

Featured Replies

Hi,

I will arrive  in CM in november and I plan to rent a house. On many websites of property agents I saw many partly or fully furnished houses with sometimes horrendous furnitures, wall colorsor neon lighting.

Now my (quite numerous) questions:

  • Is it possible to ask the landlord to remove his furnitures?
  • Or can I even throw them away?
  • If I bring my own furnitures or buy new ones, will they become part of the property so that I´m not allowed to remove them when I end the rental contract?
  • What about a washing machine or a different/additional fridge/freezer?
  • Can I change the lighting, ie from neon to warmer lights?
  • Can I put mosquito nets on windows and/or doors?
  • Can I paint walls in colors I like?
  • Can I put an inflatable pool in the garden?

Thank you so much for your help!

I think the answer to most of your questions lie with the owner of the property.

Using an inflatable pool shouldn't be a problem. But painting walls, throwing out furniture may cause a bit of trouble.

Some owners may remove furniture you don't want/need and generally have no problem with you using your own appliances/furniture.

Why not rent an unfurnished house?

Regarding the lighting, it would be simple enough to put up what you want and then reinstall the owners lighting prior to leaving.  Or ask the owner if it's OK to leave your lighting in operation.

Don't be surprised if the owner isn't keen with your ideas and/or is not willing to compensate you for your costs.  Best bet is to ask first.

Gd luck

Or buy a house and then you can do what you like.

Otherwise put those questions to the agent/owner, that's the simple answer.
