We probably would have been celebrating, too.

It looked for all the world as if the penalty shot had simply caromed off the top of the goal post, ending the game, and giving 17-year-old goalkeeper Akkaradet Jangporn a memory to cherish.

Of course, unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few days, you know that magic moment lasted about two seconds.

Hence the phrase, "Keep your eye on the ball."   He's a much wiser goalie today!

It’s still funny watching the video, though the reaction of the penalty taker pointing to the goal as the ball goes in, is now my favourite bit.

I wonder how long the ball is considered active after a shot like that in a shoot-out? I would have thought the ball was dead after the initial shot didn't go in. Would it still have been a goal if the ball had landed on the goalkeepers back as he ran out and it dribbled back into the goal? Or if the ball had landed outside the goal on the ground and was still, but then a wind gust blew it into the goal? Do we have any qualified refs on here who know this stuff?

The ball is live until it comes to a complete stop or leaves the field of play.

So it it hit the goal keepers back and rolled into the goal, it would be a goal.  If it comes to a complete stop and a gust of wind starts it up again, it should be a dead ball but it would be in the opinion of the referee if it came to a complete stop or not.

Sounds like some of the supporters knew the rule as you can hear them pointing it out and warning the goalkeeper.

The excitement of the goalkeeper, probably made him forget the rule and the team paid the price.

Easy done it a situation like that, I hope he gets over it quickly and it does not effect his future confidence.

We all make mistakes, no one is perfect.

Its dead when it comes to a stop provided it stays within the field and no interference from anyone other than the goalie.

Or the ref. If it hits the woodwork and then the ref and goes in a goal is given ?
