So, looking for a car to transport my Lab around. Price less than 1.5m

Wish list: x easy entrance to trunk

X good size trunk with even uncluttered surface

Some cars I looked at:

Lots of Honda:

1) HR-V : good size trunk and back seats good flat...so far Best option

2) CR-V: only available in 7 seats (apparently) therefore not even surface

3) BR-V and Mobilio: very good load area but interior too simple for my liking

Mazda:

1) Cx3: tiny boot

2) cx5: a bit cluttered and new one coming out soon

Volvo:

1) V60: not bad but over budget.

Subaru

1) XV: high loading area and small...wanted to like it but just didn't work

2) Forester: ok size but don't like the car

Nissan

1) Xtrail: soso boot in hybrid with clutter

So guys if you have some more options let's hear it. Didn't look at a Honda Jazz but with back seats flat down could maybe still an option

You'd be surprised how much you can fit in the back of a Honda Jazz.

We rented one in Chiang Mai a few years ago... drove out to shop at the OTOP village at Hang Dong... filled the back of the car with paintings and frames.

Unbelievable how much we crammed in the back!

Paintings are a bit easier on the upholstery than labradors.

Well...paint could scratch up and on the fabric. Corners could hit and Mark the plastics...?

I've got a Ford Everest my lab loves it & my weimaraner does now. Its a 7 seater & there's loads of room when you drop the last row of seats. The 2nd & 3rd rows have theit own aircon vents so the dogs just snooze ?

If a car type SUV is the preference, the HR-V would be a good option as long as the back seats are not needed for passengers other than the dog.  Pity the new CX-5 is not available yet and Mazda Thailand dropped the 2.5L petrol version.  The X-Trail and CR-V are too biased to comfort for my liking but that's IMHO.

The larger PPVs are worth considering, the PJS or lower model Everest are around 1.5M baht, similar to the higher grade X-Trail or CR-V.  More ponderous, but comfy but plenty of space in the back.

I got specially made doggy cushion & protective sest backs for the Everest in vinyly same colour as car's leather. Fits perfectly & wipes down with wet cloth only 3K.

get a pickup

if dog gets wet, dog rides 'out back'

This is what i did, bought an old runaround for about 150K, perfect - don't care how trashed it gets.

Over time big dogs destroy cars, it'll get wrecked - and stink!

The Honda HRV have the same amazing rear seats folding system than the Jazz, but a lot more space. Anyway, dogs in any size can be trained to laydown in any space and still calm until getting out. Your car do not need to be your dog playground. You can also build a custom made screen with plastic pipes or order an aluminum screen to fit behind the rear seat to keep the dog isolated on the cargo area, and not damaging the seats cover. Real leather seats when wet smells like meat sometimes.... and you can have a bad surprise leaving your dog alone inside the car just few minutes. Happens with my dog and with my car...and that was an expensive learning experience.

Me too. Pickup with a cap for the dogs. Take them to the beach and they get wet and sandy with no worries. No way I would do that in a car. Pickup was best idea to keep us both happy. Labs especially love to swim.

In a another life I sold cars for a few months. One chap walks in, picks out a pick up says he likes it but has to show his dog which was in his trade in

Him and dog (a beautiful German Shepard) do a 360 and the dog jumps on the tray barking and wagging tail and deal was done lol

On a budget Toyota Sienta hands down. Also HRV is great with its magic seats.

New CRX has sliding mid row seats and I think they are also magic seats,  correct if wrong.  Another benefit is the rear area has roof vents.  V useful for keeping a dog cool.

For a guy who likes Fortuners, that's a pretty sweeping statement.

When I lived in the US I had a Neapolitan mastiff. I got a 1 ton dually crew cab to take him around... He fit great in that. It was 27 feet long and 9 feet wide, he was just over 140 pounds...

The OP needs something a labrador can jump into, which means one of the low-ride pickups.

On second thoughts, labs love water. Why not buy a submarine?

Quite possibly. Does your Fortuner have brakes like Evel Knievel?
