Google recently obliged everybody to view search results from the country they are based in. This means we all get Thailand-based searches by default. You can change this in settings, but if you clear cookies etc., it reverts back again. Annoying, and time to look at alternatives.

 

I tried duckduckgo and Bing but found the former too restrictive, the latter too messy.

 

I am now using yippy.com (formerly Clusty) and I'm impressed with the wide spectrum of search results. No specific categories such as images, video, etc., but if you enter these after your search term, they come up. You can also do time searches for the most recent results.

 

Time to spare? Try entering Chiang Mai as a search term to view what comes up, especially the useful categories in the left side column.

 

 

 

I see it doesn't suffer from the Parental Restrictions, that afflict Google searches!!

 

no thumbnails by default; but Yippy is saved by having an embedded 'preview' button for each result 

Results are more what I expect to see in contrary to google results which include many times a lot of unwanted rubbish
