Patrol policeman killed in road accident

By The Nation

A patrol policeman was killed when his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a sand truck on a Bangkok road late Thursday night.

The accident happened at 10.40 pm on Ratchadapisek Road opposite the Criminal Court in Chatuchak district.

Pol Senior Sgt Maj Thawee Khoteplaboo, 49, was injured and died soon after as rescuers were about to take him to hospital.

The truck driver, Sommai Srisongsarn, 37, said he was delivering sand to a construction site on Soi Ratchada 30 and was driving on the left-hand lane at about 30 to 40 kilometres per hour when he heard a bang at the back of his vehicle.

He stopped, got out of the truck to check and found the injured policeman lying in the road.

Pol Capt Anucha Pliensamai, deputy inspector of Phaholyothin police, said Thawee had just finished his shift and was returning home to the police residential building on Soi Chokechai 4.

Unfortunately, a rider at high speed, may he R.I.P.,  hitting an object moving in the same direction provokes questions about street illumination, car and bike lights, crash helmets, blood tests etc.
Information that usually is featured in such crash reports.
in Yesterday's bus crash p.e. it was even mentioned that the person in the truck that got rear-ended was not driving under influence, as if that matters at all when establishing guilt in a case like that ...

High speed and another rear end smash.....lessons learnt here.....nil!

Drive a car or a pickup if you can afford it.  That's what these lessons teach me.

But if you cant then ride safely and competently, and increase your chances somewhat of getting home safely

Notwithstanding all the Muppets in larger modes of transport

You can drive a scooter safer than the nimrod on the scooter next to you.

But you can't drive one safer than you can drive a car.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to fool someone, probably themselves.

Nothing to do with driving a scooter safer than a car, ALL to do with driving a scooter SAFELY, the problems begin when either yourself or A N OTHER makes a bad choice

I do understand that a Motorbike or scooter lack certain safety features, all the more reason to not ride into the back of anything

I ride a bike here and keep in mind what it took to pass my test in the Uk. I keep my speed down and observe closely all the other idiots on the road. No awareness on the road here. RIP
