PHUKET: Some 3,000 cruise liner passengers descended upon Patong yesterday (Nov 22) and were welcomed by officials from various local government including Patong Mayor Chalermluck Kebsup.

The stop-off was part of The Genting Groups five-day “Island Escapade” cruise from Singapore aboard the “Genting Dream” liner, which also includes port calls at Kuala Lumpur and Penanag.

During the stop-off, Mayor Chalermluck together with Kathu Mayor Chaianan Sutthikul and others including media were invited on board the Genting Dream where they were greeted by Michael Goh Senior Vice President of Genting Cruise Lines International Sales.

I will look forward to the Mayor of Patong greeting me at Phuket Airport when I next visit!

Be afraid.......be very afraid.

Me so glad I don't live anywhere near Patong!

They hardly 'descend' onto Patong, as soon as they touch land most are wisked away around the island on mini vans from the roadside. As for the ship polluting, the worst polluters in Patong are Speedboats, Jet Skis and Tuk Tuks - there we go three in one lol...

Most likely a cruise ship full of seniors that prefer to stay on board and read a book

They'de be the smart ones.

Surprised they are so welcome; the Genting Group specialises in gambling and I'm sure their cruise ships are no exception.

They have casinos in the UK, notably in cities with plenty of Chinese in residence.

Yes, and they are legal, unlike Thailand.

Not enough time for any hanky panky - especially with partner in tow.

Enough time for a soapy massage after sending partner to JungCeylon for shopping.
