I love TV forums as we do have an element of free speech - what I am slightly concerned about is how much longer we may have that right and anything we all may have said in the past that may not defame each other but could be construed under a law we are not aware of to be defamatory

The change of law is a year old.... so far, no mention of it being used by the courts (is there?)... thanks for the reminder Facebook ( before your declared an illegal site... ???)

 

as yet, I have never seen the BiB effectively police anything, barring inactivity.... and given that the government now acknowledge this ( by having given over their duties to other organization), I can’t see any real threat to computer users from the BiB

 

mind you, I do recall a couple of articles herein, where total tossers have “stalked” or harassed girls by displaying graphic images on iPhones and asking the “victim” to do the same with them..... so perhaps a positive side of the coin.... get those sickos.

Agree totally that s41t is sick in any country and doesn't just break computer laws a person has to be fairly messed up to do that in the first place and deserves what's coming to them.

Some of my buddies email each other pictures of (consenting) sexy porn stars occasionally - i have already informed them to remove me from the cc email list for fear of being jailed!

Once this thread is complete this mobile phone will be going on the same bucket of water my laptop went into yesterday.

I must stress that all images I have every had on my phone or computer would be fully legal in 99.9% of all countries in the world!

Not relating to porn, but there was a Vice documentary that showed this law in relation to satirical content against the regime. It followed the story of a Thai woman who has a brother that is locked up for 50 or so years for sharing a cartoon on Facebook that poked fun at the powers that be.

How about addressing the proper obscene behaviour in this land - starting off with improving their position in the World's corruption table, instead of the ridiculous recent "changes" like 100,000 baht fines and/or a year in jail for smoking on the beach, or being in possession of "offensive material"! :-

You are right, but anyway they are not targeting "normal" computer users, they are targeting political opponents.

Whenever they want to get rid of an opponent, they can inspect his computer and find something that can be interpreted as threatening stability or harmony, defaming, or "innapropriate". Before that, it was only possible if the person had published, posted or communicated something.

I was talking to a friend last night about this and he challenged me to find any traces of porn on his notebook. He thought he was safe because he downloads to his notebook and then transfers to an external drive. Without even going into his Windows folder, System Restore or his Acronis backups, simply right-clicking on his torrent client scared the life out of him. That took approx. 15 seconds!

 

The cropped screenshot below was given to me with his permission as it gives no personal details except perhaps what porn he is into...........

 

@chrisinth   FYI CCleaner  will get rid of those issues and clear local caches, history etc  - i just did exactly what you described on my uTorrent Client - where before I had a long list of recent downloads, now there are none.

I remember the time before the Internet when Thailand was often referred to in the foreign press as having the most robust free press in Asian after the post-Marcos Philippines.   You never see positive references to Thailand's freedom of expression in the foreign media any more. In fact, it is quite the reverse.  I am also not sure about the Philippines in the madman Duterte era.
