BANGKOK, 24th November 2017 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has instructed all of the city’s 50 district offices to draft flood prevention and remedy plans to be publicized in towns and cities in preparation for rains next year.

Deputy Bangkok Governor Chakkaphan Piew-ngam recently handed down policy on water management to relevant offices of the BMA, including its Department of Drainage and Sewerage, Department of Public Works, Traffic and Transport Department and district offices in a bid to make needed preparations well ahead of next year’s rainy season.

He called for all of the capital’s district offices to analyze flood data from this year and draft prevention and mitigation plans. Policy handed down also involved the dredging of 83 canals covering 112 kilometers and of pipes in 3,285 Sois by April 2018.

District officials are to pay particular attention to flood prone areas or places susceptible to flooding. They are to calculate the water holding capacity of each district and publicize all relevant information ahead of the monsoon season next year.
