Ridiculous.

It's unbelievable the level of ire a high school prank can draw.

Biggest mountain made out of the smallest mole hill EVER.

Its the first high school prank I've heard of where the students intend to offend people around the world.

The two men had an Instagram account called traveling_butts which showcased similar selfies taken at tourists sites around the world. The account had more than 14,000 followers but on Wednesday it had been deleted.

Stick to baring your butts in the good ole USA boys.

Not everyone around the world  appreciates your ugly gestures.

Do you mean people go searching for an instagram account called "traveling butts", subscribe to it, and then claim to be offended?

Are these the same people who pay for a ticket to an x-rated movie and then complain that it was full of graphic sex and nudity?

I think they got that message by now loud and clear. But sending them to prison for several years?

They won't be in the slammer for several years, they're Yanks, strings will be pulled if it comes to that.

6 months should be about right to teach them some manners.

Easy to be so casual about even six months in a Thai prison. Imagine if it was you.

I was in prison for several years. It was called boarding school. People adjust to their circumstances.

6 months would give them time to reflect on their ugly behaviour.

Bull. So callous.

My buddy came over to visit. I took him to Anchor Was. He climbed up on top of one of those Big heads in the Bayan complex. Guide came unglued. Good people sometimes do stupid stuff on holidays. Fine them. Just please don't make an international incident over it. BTW. The enormous billboards regarding Buddha tattoos,  off the hook.

Learn how to behave in other people's countries. Is it so difficult? How about Thai tourists going to the USA, mooning the statue of Abraham Lincoln and then posting it on the internet. I wonder how the American authoirites will react?

I cannot imagine American authorities being so thin-skinned as to care if someone "mooned" a statue of Lincoln. There is not really any commonality between the hypersensitivity of Thais and the rules of most western countries.

what they did is not mooning

mooning is flashing your arse at an object

They flashed their <deleted> at a camera. Is that not an object?

No jail.

They already did at the white house.

Don't think they were even ticketed.

People probably just laughed.

I agree they shouldn't have done it and a fine is reasonable. But jail seems insane. It could literally ruin their lives.

No, six months is a typical sentence for a misdemeanor.  In fact, almost everybody gets off with a fine & suspended sentence the first time.

You haven't kept up. They're possibly facing two very serious charges each with possible multiple year sentences. Posting porn online and a religious violation.

On top of the exposure fine which is minor.

I wonder if theres a few posters whos saying stuff like

"string em up by their willies" etc

were kinda going along with the crowd, kinda in jest, or trying to be funnier than what they read from a previous post ?

Yes, it is arrogant and stupid thing to do, and i to did post the comment above

but really i can not wish these guys to a Thai jail

Not for that anyway.

Let them wai and say sorry and if it look sincere then deported.

To use those other serious laws on this, is not right and would make Thailand look very bad i think.

Jingthing, you've been in Thailand  long enough to know that Westerners behaving stupidly who don't cause any serious damage rarely stay in prison long.

Perhaps I haven't.  As I mentioned, I think the stunt was sophomoric and the reaction is hugely disproportionate, so I am spending as few brain cells on it as possible.  What can I expect from a country that arrests senior citizens for playing bridge.

You have no idea what's going to happen to them. Don't act like you do. It's obnoxious.

Laws that were broght in by the Junta to control the people. Show yer bum away from the big pile of stones; 2 years in slammer. Pick mushrooms; 30 years. Kill someone - well if you can catch him - nothing.

It's all utter  bol----ks.

had they done a similar act in Pakistan they would be dead

lynched by a mob

probably by fire

These guys were obnoxious in their behaviour but I'm willing to wager they will be back in the States within a few months at the latest.
