Jingthing
I live in Pattaya and hate Songkran in Pattaya. So I really hate Songkran in Chiang Mai. However, I don't want to leave the country. Is it true that the water throwing in Bangkok is restricted to zoned areas like Khao San Road? If so, what are the exact areas to avoid?
leisurely
Nope. It's water flinging all the way around ours. I imagine it is worse in KSR, but i goes on day and night along our small(ish) soi. I think you either have to hole up at home for the three days or brave it.
jumnien
Take a cab to a shopping center and see one of the latest international films being shown and people watch! Stay dry...

Ulysses G.
It is pretty easy to stay dry in Bangkok. Just avoid tourist areas like Nana Plaza, Patpong and KSR and use a taxi if you have to go there for some reason.
Spit the Dog
If you get a taxi from your doorstep to one of the shopping malls you should be able to stay dry. But if your out and about on the streets away from the tourist areas there are still the kids with water guns , people throwing water from their houses and passing trucks to contend with. julie_f
Avoid buses. Prime targets for large buckets of water! Either a taxi door to door or stay at home. Went to KSR a couple years back. So hot it was actually quite nice to have a bottle of cold water poured on you!

popshirt
For personal reasons, I need to visit the U.S. once a year. I choose to go in April because I can miss SonKran and also some of the worst heat.
