Mabprachan Resort Reviews?

Any comments on the new Mabprachan Resort? Looking for a comfortable getaway

from the town scene :o .

I spent some time up near Maprachan in November 06. It is very beautiful but quite far away from Pattaya itself - about 25 mins drive by car as I remember.

There are 2 or 3 nice bar/restaurants at lakeside. There were no organised lakeside activities - a few thai's were rod-fishing. No motors are allowed on the lake as it is the fresh water resevoir for Pattaya.

The main farang population seemed to be english couples who wanted the convenience of Pattaya for shopping while not actually living amongst the Pattaya sex scene itself.

As a holiday destination - well it depends what you're looking for but I would suggest it's too quiet for kids but may be suitable for an older couple.

I've been to the Mabprachan Resort quite a few times and I'm very impressed by it.

Jimmy and Monty took a chance by building it outside of the usual Pattaya areas but after only being open 6 months they are starting to do really well.

It's a well laid out resort with plenty of facilities. I think it caters for the business types working in and around Pattaya, golfers and families as opposed to the "sex tourist, lager lout" types.

Pattaya City center is only 15 minutes away and most of the city's larger attractions and golf courses are this side of Sukhumvit.

P.S. plus it's got a huge air conned bar :o

The Mabparchan Resort is a classy place to drink and dine, has huge Tv screens everywhere - even out by the very large pool, and many other facilities.

I understand the rooms are very nice, but having the Mobi Mansion nearby I've never tried them out :o

Obviously you need your own transport, but as others have said, its only 15 mins to the Sukhumvit highway, and going in the Easterly direction, you hit the main Bangkok/ Rayong highway in less than 5 minutes, so it's easy to get away to other parts of Thailand (including Bangkok) without dragging through the Pattaya traffic jams.

Right now there are 5 farang owned bar/restaurants around the lake (Fishermans's Rest, Terrace Manneke Pis, Scotts Corner and Junior's)), one large Thai restaurant (Khun Johns), and a small motel called the Peacock. All these places serve excellent Thai and farang food at very reasonable prices. There is also a short time bar (Mermaids), and a little further away there is the Black Pearl and the Butterfly. There are other, small Thai food shops, bars and mini marts scattered around.

More people are coming to the lake every day for fishing, and there a a number of kayaks parked lakeside on racks. It's nice place in late afternoon to go for a stroll, and walk or swim the dog, and the sunsets over the lake are quite breathtaking.

The Mabprachan resort, Fishermans Rest, Manneke Pis and Khun Johns are quite family orientated and are often buzzing with families and kids in the late afternoon/ early evening.

I believe the lakeside facilities will improve in quantity and quality over the next year or two.

Certainly the Mabprachan area is a quieter, interesting and in many ways a cheaper alternative to Pattaya City, and one which currently attracts a wide cross section of Farangs - old and young, singles, marrieds and families.

I just had six members of my family out to stay from England, and most evenings we would drop by one of the aforementioned places for a few beers and an evening or lunchtime meal. Everyone was very happy with the food and ambience.

I live on this side, off Siam Country Road, (before you hit Mab. resort), there are a surprising number of restuarants and bars within 5-10 minutes drive of the area, without having to cross Sukhumvit; Narm Plab Vaan (sic) (Muslim Road) which runs parallel to Siam Country has something for everyone, an abundance of shops, bars and resturants, I regularly frequent Dave and Jumbo's Terrace bar and must say they serve some of the best Thai food around with a great relaxing atmosphere. Rainbow resturant is unassuming but does the best Tom Gar Kai in the area.

Apologies for any spell mistakes :o
