A 19 year old Chiang Mai university student was slashed in the arm by a mentally deranged man wielding a box cutter.

She was innocently waiting to press the ATM in front of the Ban Sankhong, Sankamphaeng, branch of 7/11 when the man came up behind her.

Following the attack on Wednesday the man fled. No attempt at theft was made.

Piyathida Pinbua suffered a seven centimeter gash that needed 8 stitches. She was rushed to hospital in her sister's car.

Police traced the man with CCTV evidence to a nearby house. He is a 47 year old with mental problems - they took him to Suan Prung Psychiatric hospital in Chiang Mai.

The elder sister of the victim put the story on Facebook to act as a warning to others while their aunt said they would prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

The man is well known for causing problems in the area, reported Manager.

they seem to have a problem here with just locking up nutters like this bloke. sure they may well need psychiatric help but they shouldn't be out on the streets when they are a danger to other people and themselves

Surprised the powers that be haven't gave him a taxi or bus to drive?

Too many bi-polar people walking around in Thailand. The video shows nice looking sisters, is her dimple done in Korea? Such clear dimple seldom seen- could be cosmetic surgery, just guessing.

How do I meet nice ladies like these? Anyone knows.

What makes you think this attacker's mental issue was bi-polar?

Well Doctor Baerboxer I wasn't sure really what do you think doctor Baerboxer is he bi-polar? Is your guess as good as mine?

In a society when the rich only take care of themselves and nobody else there will be a lot of mental illness this is also my conjecture because I am not Thai I cannot connect to them culturally, linguistically or socially, too bad.

I am more interested in the 2 ladies as a matter of fact, I haven't make love to such nice laides for so long. I am now like a dog with rabies, saliva flowing down the side of my mouth. I wish they had not shown that video.

The guy committed a random criminal offence, lucky for her he only slashed her. He obviously needs psychological help. If he ends up in the slammer then that's unlikely. A settlement will likely make the charge go away, but then what...
