THE SUPERVISOR of a police lieutenant who is accused of staging the robbery of a gold outlet has recommended the officer’s dismissal unless an investigation clears his name.

Nong Chik Police Station superintendent Colonel Thompong Petchpirun made the recommendation after learning that his 37-year-old subordinate, Pol Lieutenant Meechai Chorsom, was implicated in the robbery.

“The robbery took place at a time when he was taking leave to visit his family,” Thompong said yesterday.

He said Meechai was usually polite and quiet and a good worker. “I don’t know what has gone wrong,” Thompong said.

Meechai, a deputy inspector at Pattani province’s Nong Chik Police Station, was detained as soon as he reported to work at the police station on Friday night. He has been charged with robbing a gold shop in Nakhon Si Thammarat’s Thung Yai district last Wednesday.

Thung Yai police used CCTV footage to seek an arrest warrant for Meechai. The robber made off with 20-baht weight of gold necklaces worth about Bt400,000.

A source from the investigation team said police had tracked down the owner of a motorcycle used in the robbery, who told police that Meechai had borrowed his motorcycle and returned it to him a few days ago.

After the arrest, police escorted Meechai to his house where clothes and a cap allegedly used in the robbery were found.

Pol Maj-General Damras Wiriyakul, a deputy chief with the Provincial Police Region 8, yesterday headed to Nong Chik Police Station to handle Meechai’s case.

Meechai was interrogated for more than five hours before being transferred from the station.

A further interrogation will take place at the Thing Yai Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

Pattani police chief Pol Maj-General Piyawat Chalermsri said Meechai had denied any wrongdoing.

“At this point, I have set up three committees already,” he said.

The first committee would investigate Meechai’s alleged criminal offences, Piyawat said. If he is found guilty, Meechai will be sacked, although technically it is possible that he could still receive his pension.

The second committee will check whether the gun used in the robbery was issued by a state agency and if it had been reported as missing.

The third committee, meanwhile, will determine whether Meechai’s supervisor should also be held responsible for negligence in relation to the case.

Totally irrelevant! What happened was greed and lack of respect for other peoples property, as always. Nothing new here. (I found guilty)

So a criminal in an official duty position, should still be able to gain from his wrongdoing? Crazed, as always! (I found guilty)

If he was properly checked and had taken the proper education and exam. How can a supervisor ever be held responsible for what an employee does during his free time or a leave? Still living in the time of no brainfunction?

If a policeman cannot stage a robbery with little/no evidence then he is surely not much of a policeman.... he knows the system so why leave a clear evidence trail??? Deserves all that he gets in my humble opinion.....

Ah !!! I see what happened now...........The owner of the motorcycle committed the robbery, lent the bike to the policeman, planted the clothes in his house when he brought the bike round.......case closed.....

Next week he will set up three more committees to verify the findings of the first three committees, then another committee to oversee the findings of the second lot of committees who will then report to..........by then maybe the case will be forgotten, and the policeman can have his inactive post.........:whistling:

I don't see any mention of him being prosecuted for ARMED ROBBERY.    More interested in 'what's gone wrong' with him as he is such a quiet and polite man in the office.   No doubt next will come a story of how his Father treated him badly as a kid, his Daughter got pregnant and someone kicked his Dog, leading to him being 'under fierce pressure' in his personal life so he decided to do a bit of attention seeking !

"If he is found guilty, Meechai will be sacked, although technically it is possible that he could still receive his pension".

As said earlier in another article Thai authorities have at best an IQ of 70.

Lets summarize this:

Cop robs gold store with a gun and caught on CCTV.Cops set up not 1 but three committees to investigate. His worst punishment is he MAY be sacked but still receive a pension. Only in Thailand!

By the way the police chief should set up a forth committee to oversee Committee 1,2 and 3 . LMAO.

Compare this case to lets say my country . The cop at the very least and assuming guilty would be sacked, gaoled for about 5 years and definitely get no pension plus nil committee only one judge to determine his guilt.
