Toon pauses to greet 103-year-old woman in Lampang

By The Nation

Charity run hero Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai paused briefly during his first leg of the day to cross the road to hug and kiss an 103-year-old woman in a wheelchair in Lampang’s Muang district early on Wednesday.

While he was running through downtown Lampang, Toon was told that the old woman was waiting to see him. After crossing the road, he gave her a wai and hug and kissed her cheek. The woman asked to have a photo taken with him and gave him her small donation.

On Day 50 of Toon's 2,191-kilometre campaign to raise donations for 11 hospitals, he plans to run 6 legs with a total distance of 74.9 kilometres.

Toon and his group started his first leg at 3.25am, running from Ban Ploy restaurant in Tambon Chomphu in Muang district for 20km to the Lampang Highway 1 Office in Tambon Ban Sadet in Muang district.

A lot of people waited alongside a road in the heart of Lampang to cheer the singer and to hand him cash amid temperature of 15 degrees Celsius.

He plans his last stop for the day to be the First Forest Research Centre in Tambon Ban Huad in Lampang’s Ngao district.

Toon has provided more than just the financial commitment to his cause but a "feel good" story for all of Thailand at a time when it can surely benefit all.
