A young Thai-Japanese woman was arrested last night after she was caught on surveillance cameras stealing from Fairy Plaza, a shopping mall in Khon Kaen.

University student Akina Tada, 21, was identified as the well-dressed woman in the CCTV clip who stole two Adidas jackets and a purse on Dec. 5 and Dec. 14.

Police said the young woman, a Nakhon Ratchasima native, confessed to the crime, adding she had also stolen two pairs of shoes from the same mall before, Thairath reported.

Police said Tada had been treated for mental illness at Khon Kaen Rajanagarindra Psychiatric Hospital and believed her shoplifting habit was driven by her depression since they don’t believe she used any of the stolen goods — she just kept them in her dorm room.

Tada has been charged with theft. She’s facing three years in jail and and a maximum fine of THB6,000.

Funny just the last paragraph was left out of the story.

The young lady is in need of psychiatric help not public humiliation.

Kleptomania  is the recurrent inability to resist urges to steal items that you generally don't really need and that usually have little value. Kleptomania is a rare but serious mental health disorder

It's not an excuse for justifying stealing, but oh well, we all know that....

i recall an essay in the bangkok english language newspaper about all the corruption and cheating and scamming . author was a thai woman that wrote "are we a nation of thieves?"

I did have that when I was younger .

My Parents took me to see a Doctor and he prescribed me four pills to be taken everyday for four weeks .

He said that if the pills dont work, could I get him a colour TV  and a Liverpool away shirt
