Caged dog dies in Chiang Mai house fire

By The Nation

A pet dog, unable to escape its cage, died howling in a fire that engulfed a house near Chiang Mai’s Thapae Gate late Wednesday night.

Police said the fire started at 10pm inside the two-storey house on Soi 1 off Ratchadamnoen Road, which proved too narrow for the six fire engines that responded.

It took some time for firefighters to link together an adequate length of hose to reach the house. By then the structure was engulfed in flames, so they concentrated on preventing its spread.

Afterwards, the dog’s charred body was found still in its cage.

Ground-floor tenant Worathai Duandao, 30, said he’d been bathing when he heard someone shouting about a fire.

The cause has yet to be determined.
