Former Abhisit aide killed in Pathum Thani road crash

A former aide of Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva was killed when his SUV crashed into the rear of a trailer truck in Pathum Thani’s Mueang district early on Friday, police said.

Police said Apinan Chuaybamrung, 56, a failed Democrat candidate in Pathum Thani, was killed behind the wheel in the accident at 5.20am on the Pathum Thani-Lad Lum Kaew road near the Pathum Thani Transport Office intersection.

 

His wife, Siriwan Chuaybamrung, 59, was severely injured in the front passenger seat. Rescuers rushed her to Pathum Thani Hospital.

 

The truck driver, Pramual Paela, 53, told police that he was delivering piling poles to a nearby construction site when he heard a loud sound from behind. He parked and got out to see that the Toyota Forturner that hit his truck's rear had fallen onto the roadside.

 

Relatives said Apinan was driving his wife to catch a van to work in Chon Buri when the accident occurred.

From the damage visible in the photo, the truck must have had a cargo of 'poles' that extended out of the rear by an illegal amount.

Most concrete piling transported on 40 foot flat deck trailer trucks is longer than the trailer bed and is quite legal to overhang if it is suitably marked with red flag and or red flashing light. At 5.20a.m. it was pitch dark and the news item gives no indication as to whether the truck was clearly marked .. 

Anyway, RIP to the husband, and hopefully his wife is able to recover from her serious injuries.
