Apply for UK tourist visa while son's UK passport is still being processed?

My son's UK passport is currently being processed and Id like to start the application process now also for a UK tourist visa for my wife, is this possible without my son's passport? I just started doing the application but then at the dependents page it asked for his passport number so Ive saved it for now...

The passport must be submitted with the application, though there is an option of supplying a colour copy of the passport and paying a fee of £51, or their equivilant in USD, but this wouldn't help you.

As you've discovered you cannot submit the application unless you have a passport number, I don't think you can get past that page unless you enter the passport details.

If you want to do a dry run maybe enter ghost details, proceed and then either edit the details when you have the passport or use the dry run as a template for later use.

To be quite honest I can't really see the point of doing the application until you have the passport.

Are you sure the actual passport has to be submitted? My 2 year old son has a UK passport and I just entered the number on the form and a copy of the ID page, for my wife's visit visa.

Either way, the OP will need the passport number.

You’re of course correct BB, I’d misread the post and was thinking it was the child who was applying for a visa.
