Soi Bukaw

Would make sense to close it to car and truck traffic at 2nd road and soi LK metro (the road where subway is).  It is not wide enough for 2 way car and truck traffic.  The deliveries could come from the road behind the avenue that tees in.  Motorbike traffic wouldn't be nearly as bad without the cars.

It'll be a happier soi without people that don't like it.
Bye.

The good thing about Pattaya is you can choose where you want to go , you will rarely see me in WS or in soi B . But each to his own , I live my life , you live your life.

Maybe it's the same loud motorbike I hear/see daily but there is one particular motorbike on Buakhao Soi 15 behind Avenue Mall and Areca Lodge that goes so fast and is so loud without any care of any cars or people on the road.  Many motorcycles fly down Buakhao Soi 15.  Why?  I have NEVER seen any police on that road so they never have any concerns about getting a speeding ticket.  With that soi becoming more crowded with pedestrians it's an huge accident waiting to happen.

Could be the same young Thai dude I have see several times on a loud bike.  He is on a bigger bike and halls A down Buakhao at 80 mph.

Must have a death warrant I think.

Hey Shallow Hal...you forgot the better than average restaurant choices and drinking places to chat with your friends.

Oh... nevermind.  I can see now why you would never lower yourself to that demographic area.  Better to stay solo and too cool for the masses.

Maybe they should ban vehicles, or at least most vehicles, and call it Walking Street.

It's coming to a city centre near you over the next few years, speaking for myself I can't wait to see the back of the internal combustion engine at least let only electrified vehicles in places where people walk about, and buses should only be allowed to the outskirts.

He forgot the nationalities fat and slim. He's one of those young bucks who goes to late night clubs and really thinks a girl is interested in him because of his dancing not his money.

Only joking ?????

It's not really a joke. Sometimes tourists casually stroll along Soi Buakao 2 or 3 abreast, taking up half the road, completely oblivious to the fact it's a road, and I have to ask them if they would kindly let me through on my motorcycle. So many tourists walk across roads expecting and trusting that all traffic will pass around them or stop for them. You see them walking across the road while not even looking in the direction of on-coming traffic.

Oh, hello Destiny1990... No arrows required. If he's an idiot, he should be walking where most other idiots walk, right where he is, as close to the middle of the road as possible and even better, on the other side of the road with his back to oncoming traffic. If he is smart, as close as practicable to the curb, which is well indicated in that photo.

Did you not read my post? I did specifically mention 2 or 3 abreast. Perhaps you don't understand the term "abreast". It means side by side. They walk side by side across the road, blocking the traffic lane. If that's where you like to walk, then join the first category.

? One way for vehicles and with nice pavements on both sides for the pedestrians seems the preferred solution.

There is no space for "nice pavements" in Soi Buakhao, even if they turned it into a one-way street. Turning it into a one-way street would make congestion in Pattaya much worse as it would increase the traffic on 2nd and 3rd Roads, Pattaya Klang and Pattaya Tai.

Having said that, I would say that Soi Buakhao has more character than any other street in Pattaya. It virtually defines Pattaya. Very few streets in Pattaya have sidewalks, so where would you begin? Even if Soi Buakhao, through some magical transformation, gained at least one sidewalk you wouldn't be able to walk on it anyway as it would become an endless marketplace and you'd be back on the road again.

I think the main motto in Pattaya should be "leave well enough alone". Soi Buakhao is fine the way it is and tourists love it.

Speak for your self.if u would ask these tourists if they prefer decent sidewalks and or  walking between cars and motorbikes on a jammed packed rd then u will get the real answers.

Well, this is one our classic TVF poster whinges, the lack of ah! spacious sidewalks where one may stroll comfortably, with of course plenty of seating and shade—just for them, since Thais aren't complaining and do benefit (hard as that is to swallow) from their partly blocked sidewalks. Wrong country and area of the world, mostly. I came up with THE perfect solution years ago:

Pattaya Pat disappeared not too long after my post so I trust he's found happiness there and I highly encourage our other posters plagued with useless fantasies to do the same.

But then you ask them if they're willing to pay the price for the realization of their preference and point out all the implications of it and the answer will be no. They don't actually want to, or can't, pay what it would take to sterilize Pattaya into The Villages or Santa Barbara. If they were, they'd just go there. Personally, even if I lived in Santa Barbara, I'd still miss the circus and chaos of Pattaya. It's a very unique place, to say the least.

You're speaking for yourself too. If primmed and proper sidewalks are a necessity for tourists, there are millions of countries which can fulfill that particular need. People are looking for the "rough and ready" tourist experience when they decide on Thailand as a destination. They don't expect things to be clean and tidy. It's only expats who have been here too long that start whining about these kinds of "problems". I'm sure I'm not the only expat who finds Soi Buakhao quite tolerable just the way it is.

Looking at the photo i would say that the road situation can be improved however it is not a big concern for me but for all these British tourists who live there day and night i can understand that for them the situation is not ideal.

I only go to Bukaw for dinner at Loaf and sometimes at the Subway  for a sandwich both located at the busiest junction of Bukaw.

You seem quite concerned about a street you hardly visit?

Any tourists that are really concerned for their safety on Soi Buakhao have endless choices of hotels and guesthouses on quiet sois. It's hardly ever difficult to relocate as most places have vacancies most of the year.
