In Russia, it got worse. Much worse.

Featured Replies

It's become a cliche to tell oppressed gay kids dealing with familial and societal homophobia that all too often leads to depression, self destructive behavior, and even suicide that it will GET BETTER.

If they make it to adulthood, it certainly often does.

But what's up with Russia? Getting worse.

It's no surprise that many nations in the world, particularly nations in Africa and/or Muslim nations are very anti-gay, some more anti-gay than Russia.

But what major nation has improved a lot on these issues and then went so far backwards?

All I can think of now is Russia.

My guess is that the main reason behind this bigotry is the influence of the Orthodox church. There is similar dose of anti-gay bigotry in Serbia and Armenia, which are also mainly Orthodox Christian.

But, one exception to this is Greece, where, as far as I know, there isn't that much anti-gay bigotry. Maybe, having been an EU member for quite many years has helped Greece in this aspect.

Yes blame the church in 2018 , that's progress much . Russia is back in the stone age.
