Ethernet connection not working? Problem solved!

 

Just a heads up.

 

About two years ago, some months after using Windows 10 Pro the Ethernet connection stopped working.

I was forced to use WiFi.

I spent days scouring Google and trying any suggestion that I could find.

 

This is what I tried:

1.      I moved the Ethernet cable to another port on the ADSL modem.

2.      I checked the Ethernet cable.

3.      Using Driver Manager, I saw that the Microsoft drivers were installed in the Ethernet Adapter:
 Realtek PCIe GBE Controller Family.

4.      I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers and installed them.

5.      I uninstalled the Realtek device and deleted the drivers.

6.      I scanned for hardware changes and Driver Mgr reinstalled the default MS drivers. Problem persists.

7.      I reinstalled the latest Realtek drivers. Problem persists.

8.      Windows 10 Pro updated to Creator version 1703, problem persisted

 

I concluded that it must be a hardware issue.

However, Windows just updated to Creator version 1709 and I decided to have another go at resolving the problem.

I found a weird post from 2002.

It seemed ridiculous but I gave it a shot. PROBLEM SOLVED.

 

1.)    Shut down your PC.

2.)    Unplug the power cord.

3.)    If you have a laptop, remove the battery as well.

4.)    Walk away from the problem for at least 30 minutes.

5.)    When you return, reconnect battery and power cord.

6.)    Start as usual. For me: PROBLEM SOLVED.

 

If this solves your problem, post this to all of the message boards that didn't give a solution!

This fix appears to work for any OS.

 

What causes it? I don't know.

 

Similar thing was suggested for curing a laptop battery not charging or a finicky on-board graphics card issue. Something about clearing BIOS/ UEFI hardware persistent memory.

 

So one might need to do this if you get into issues because you boot different operating systems on occasion.

Why the device drivers don't do this as part of their normal routine baffles me.

Reuters Dealing rooms, in the 80's, they used to have a real Big Red Switch which could be used in an emergency!

It cut the power to everything and caused a complete system reboot.

It worked LOL, a bit extreme maybe, but so is this remove the power and wait a bir.....
