Aren't a lot of Thais Thai-Chinese? The Shinawatnas spring to mind.

The last statistic I read was that 62% of Thais can trace some Chinese in their lineage.

Goes back to the origins of the silk trade apparently.

I’m very tolerant but will bulldoze them out of the way if needed. Hotel reception like this as queue moves quickly.

Wear ear defenders for peaceful life.

For even more peaceful life then spend more money on hotel as Chinese are cheap Charlie #1.

You’re too kind.

Sometimes I have overwhelming desire to mount the pavement to make the problem go away in true Thai style.

When I lived in Hong Kong (China), the pavements were always blocked with locals and Chinese tourists using their phones. I am not a small guy so would bulk out and "walk". It was like a bowling alley, and as you said, they all look gobsmacked that someone might want to actually use the pavement to get from A to B rather than a viewing platform for geeks. One day there will be "pavement rage", and no doubt it will be caught on a million phone cameras whilst no-one, without exception, steps in to help. We have created a world of yellow-bellied, selfish, entitled brats. Glad I am at a stage of looking back on my life, rather than looking forward.

I hear that a Chinese company are taking over the lease for the big plot of land between sois 5 and 6 between Beach Road and 2nd Road.

Chang own the land and currently it is used as a giant coach and car park and has locally owned restaurants at either end. All the restaurants have been given 2 months notice to clear off.

Apparently Chang will also be taking back the land where the Twin Palms Hotel presently sits.

Chang also own the Grand Sole and Imperial hotels in the area, both closed for some time for "renovation".

Site of a new Chinese owned casino complex?

Where will all the coaches go to park?

Where will all the small restaurants move to? Will they even survive?

Let's see what happens once a new Government is up and running. Chang and CP want, Chang and CP get. The construction of the proposed new rail line from Don Muang to U Tapao was won by CP, as an example. Chinese money in there too.

Thing is the Chinese and Russians don't give a fig for what the Thai's think or do and certainly in the case of the Ruskies they positively fear them.  With Chinese no 1 and Russians no 2 and Indians no 3 we are way down the pecking order in numbers these days.

Incomes of Chinese are rising steadily and more and more are getting passports.  The impact on popular tourist sites is worldwide, not just in Thailand.  I am very very glad I was able to travel a lot when I was younger and have already visited almost everywhere I'd want to visit.  No way I'd ever try to visit again the Louvre or the Vatican Museum or Venice.  Already the mobs of large tour groups are nightmarish.

100 percent correct.

I have a buddy he and his wife just got back from a one month drive trip through Europe.  Hit all the popular countries/attractions.

He knows nothing about the Chinese in Thailand.

I had to laugh he said he would never go back to Europe again. His biggest complaint was their were hordes of Chinese and Chinese tour buses everywhere.  He described many loud and rude Chinese. Some climbing onto ancient sites for photos.

I had to laugh I had no clue they were invading Europe also, which is not an inexpensive place to vacation.

So, your comments are right on.  I hit all the Euro spots 10 years ago have no reason to go back especially with this Chinese update.

Post Brexit we will need their money - they are welcome to come and stay in the UK with our falling pound it's getting cheaper by the day.

Many UK universities depend on rhe Chinese. More and more Chinese companies are now a vital and integral part of British life; and not just the UK. Italy, France and African nations rely on Chinese investment.

I dont think the percentage of passport holders will rise significantly. The reason is most of the Chinese people are financially poor.

Well, not just financially, also educationally very poor!

I'll never forget when two Chinese men spit into the pool where my wife and I ( plus many others) were swimming!!!

The pool boy and I then wanted revenge, and we're pretty good at it.

We threw ice cubes at them from a spot they couldn't see, and we're damn good at it. What they do on and around their Big Wall is their own business, methinks.

But letting their kids do "big business" in front of shopping malls in Thailand isn't gentleman- like.

Not even the cabbies in Bangkok, usually from Isaan, wanna have "in car shitt_ng passengers who're suffering from explosive diarrhea. --????

It's really time for a Chinese Prime Minister in the UK.

Their exclusive cuisine, for example, still alive monkey brain is so delicious that it would even top the sales of fish n' chips.

And a piece of a whale penis might be better than expected for wives and girlfriends in the UK...   Lol

Well Cambodia is buying Thailand time.....The Chinese are keeping pretty busy colonizing Cambodia right now... But one day they will get bored with Cambodia.....

The fastest road to ruin Thailand would be to legalize gambling..Gambling would bring in hoards of Chinese of the worst kind.....

Correct.  Sadly, Cambodia sucks and Pattaya is pristine now compared to Sianoukville.

Which is why I hope legal gambling never happens here.
