On a level playing field it's almost impossible to win against the Chinese as they work very hard , are very clannish and family orientated and careful with their money and save rather than borrow.

Except when they flock up to a clan one size too big - communism and implode. One can wish, good old times.

Yup that was just a pause on their long march to world domination ......and if anything has made them more battle hardened  , more steely - there ain't no stopping them now.

Just visiting my GF for a month and on my way back at the Airport, i see how Chinese visitor look down on Thais baggage wrapping employee. the Chinese  wrap about 4 guitar case  and then ask  the staff  to weight the 4 case and then wrapping all the case continously while another  passenger waiting in que.... the wrapping guy refuse to do another more for the Chinese, but do the wrapping for me before  getting exhausted. However these CV accuse the wrapping guy not working (albeit he do for his 4 case).. You can see how they behave at DMA, such a disgrace. My 20 baht goes to the Thai man, i know its wrong and the Thai guy refuse at first..but i just can't stand how he been look down by the CV .I'm not being racist just what i been seen all this time...cheers

I wonder if they will have Chinese guided tours to Terminal 21? That would take the fun out of that new super mall.... MS>

100% already confirmed as they have the same at T21 in Bangkok.

But they have such massive. numbers the small percentage is greater than wealth Europeans and it is nearer for them. They want funky, raucous Pattaya not sterile and anodyne Hainan.  Clean up Pattaya and there will be no Pattaya. Because Pattaya is a state of mind and freedom.

Great comment.  Hainan was a nightmare

There is a Long way to go until we respect the chinese tourist. Once they come and leave it as they found it, don’t shit in the hotel on the last night of staying in a drunken fit and respect their hosts....which so far I see so little of...they are welcome to stay home.

The question is not how many tourists, but rather how much each of them is ready to spend. One Japanese tourist might spend,in average, more than what 10 Indian tourists might.Nothing personal,Indian friends,it is just statistics.

'more independantly minded' -- get real.  5% of 1.5 billion is what part of the population, would you reckon?  Loyal workers of the state? University students?  Rich capitalists? Because the prez holds his office for life now, is one reason I say this. Personal dealings with the state, when I worked there for 7 years, is another.  I will say that you won't see the 'normal' folks, who are,  as nice as they are, not 'independently minded', unless you work there.  Not a real easy or effete life, but it's worth sacrificing a few years and some money.  Nor do I think that figure will increase much.  BTW. The people who do travel are quite mainstream and even arrogant in their fixation for Maoist/PRC perfection on earth.

Use the google translator to read some of the Help Wanted ads in China's web sites,

and see how little an average Chinese earn in a month.

The   QQ.com   is the equivalent of the msn.com

The top of the page is mostly government sponsored good news,

the middle and  the bottom has some strange news about how some of the Chinese live.

All the bad things that used to happened in western countries 120 years ago,

are still happening in China.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

And there are more "class " Chinese arriving at least the females that is: Was on a songkow yesterday that was full of early 20,s very pretty  Chinese girls speaking Cantonese that got off at Central Festival. Last week talked to two Chinese girls who were also speaking Cantonese * from Macau  . So I said if your from Macau why are you coming to Pattaya. In perfect English she says " Why are you coming to Pattaya - because its fun.

* I recognize Cantonese from NYC Chinatown in the 90,s when I went down there a couple times a week for 5 years

Yes I have also noticed Chinese solo travellers and couples who do not belong to any bus tour. Nice polite people most of them.

Many are staying at The Base.

Educated and probably have decent jobs based on their dress.

Good English also.

Just a note on this, I started up a conversation with a cute Chinese female in the elevator.  That afternoon she was on the back of my motorbike I took her around.  Had a coffee up at Buddha mountain and cruised the city.  It was just as a friend situation she was educated in the US, but lives in China.  Very nice girl we had a good time she has sent me a few messages asking me to come to China.

It made me think maybe I should advertise and become an escort for Chinese visiting Pattaya. Only for young single females of course.   HAHAHA....

They are getting more independent and getting away from their herders and tour buses.

Ha ha maybe but not yet obvious at the airport...I am lucky enough to get to go through the premium security and immigration when out bound and the other day I was held up by a plane load of them that were all being let through...herders and all!

Any specific reasons for your wish?

It's just the way I feel .

My condo already invaded by short time Chinese , making a lot of noise , all the nearby restaurants are full of Chinese. I have nothing against a mix of people and nationalities , but there is a limit.

Probably 95% of those Chinese passport holders acquired them so they can travel. Meanwhile, probably only 5% of those US passport holders have ever used them to leave the country. Can't blame them in that regard as beyond the well-known tourist traps, there's loads of less-traveled and less-explored places for the home vacationer to check out... and they don't need to learn a foreign language or worry about forex rates either.

Tourism from China is in its infancy but like the 'hordes' of Russians that descended here before the ruble crashed, you can already see the more educated, more westernized and arguably more  enlightened Chinese tourist, be it back-packer or family vacationers. You know, the younger ones that know how to order a burger, speak quietly among themselves and put the tray away when they're finished versus the generally older, noisy, messy 'hordes' that spill out of buses to catch boats to the islands or see the nightly cabaret shows.
