CityNews – A charity cycling trip, No One Left Behind, has raised over 26 million baht for people with disabilities as the cyclists reached Chiang Mai.

No One Left Behind, a charity cycling trip, was arranged by the Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities. The foundation brought together 20 people who were blind and 20 volunteer cyclists to travel the 867km journey from Bangkok to Chiang Dao.

The trip began on January 28th, and headed north through eight provinces before arriving in Chiang Mai yesterday, February 4th. The funds raised will go towards a vocational training centre for persons with disabilities in Chiang Dao with the aim to empower and give opportunities to the disabled in the area, generating greater income and reduce poverty.

A charity cycling trip called “No One Left Behind” raised over Bt26 million for disabled people in just nine days, with the cyclists reaching their final destination in Chiang Mai yesterday.

The project, a first in Thailand, involved 20 vision-impaired people and another 20 volunteers who rode two-seater bikes for the 867-kilometre journey from Bangkok to Chiang Dao district in Chiang Mai province.

It was arranged by the Universal Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, which is chaired by Prof Wiriya Namsiripongpun.

The trip started in Bangkok on January 28, and headed north through eight other provinces before arriving in Chiang Mai yesterday.

The money raised will fund a vocational training centre for persons with disabilities in Chiang Dao district, with the aim of empowering and giving opportunities to the disabled in the area, generating greater income and reducing poverty.

Around 2.7 per cent or more than 1.8 million of the population are registered with disabilities, Wiraya said.

Some 600,000 of them are unemployed and/or lack access to social welfare and do not have a caregiver.
