Which has more charm? Looking for short stay. 3 to 4 nights. Not interested in sleazy stuff. After good food, relaxing walking around, decent museum, maybe muay thai. Maybe some live music. Rock/folk/blues.

I stayed 3 days in each just this month and preferred Udon :) I found more things to do there (or driving an hour outside of town).

"I used to work in Chicago at the old Department Store. I used to work in Chicago, I don't work there anymore."

"Rock/folk/blues she wanted .... Tawan Daeng she got"

Ohhh ... I used to go etc

To quote an old rugby and hashing singalong song (probably army-derived)

Most Isaan towns have a Tawan Daeng nightclub/dancehall/music venue - sometime traditional (Morlam)/sometime a bit too techno for me but usually well worthwhile. Depends where your sleazy button lights up - they can double-up as pickup joints but its mostly inoffensive stuff amongst the younger adults and its a place your Thai wife would probably want to go to rather than avoid!

I'm sure Upper Isaan-nites on here can give you more info if I'm right in assuming there'll be one in both locations. Certainly is in Ubon, Sisaket, Surin, Buriram and Korat ... working your way westward across the townships of Lower Isaan.

In KK I seem to remember there was decent music on offer alfresco at more than one location in the big night market on the east side of highway 2 where it forms the main drag thru town.
