Little off topic, but I'm going to give a little shout out for 'some' Thai dentistry.

So, I've had my good and bad experiences with Thai dentistry over the years, but had in my last few years as a permanent resident been very happy with Thonglor Dental Hospital.

Anyhow, now we're back in the US, over Christmas while eating a rather sticky piece of toffee the sickening crack sound was heard as a crown on my back molar detached itself and stuck firmly into the toffee.

After various expletives, reason returned, realized the pulp cap was still intact, no pain, just the inconvenience of biting the inside of my check with the sharp edges.

After the holidays started pricing out how much to get it fixed, then the horror crept in, even with my insurance!

So, me and Mrs G already had a plan to return to Thailand in Feb for a few months, so I decided to tough it out.

So one week after landing at Suvarnaphumi, my crown is replaced, at approx 50% of what it would have cost me as the co-pay with my insurance at home.

Now, I'm not saying all dentistry in Thailand is equal....some of it is horrible, and wouldn;t subject my cat to it.
But the dentists at TDH, all US trained are awesome, and the cost is fantastic.

I also had a good experience ...just had root canal, new crown, and cavity repair all for about 50% of USA cost. Professional and friendly...this is BIDC in Bangkok. Hate to spend the cash but good value considering US prices

Now that some cash well spent boys...and thanks for the good tip I'll use their services in that case.....one spends fortunes in food, booze and girls so surely now and then one can afford to give the teeth a treat and not grunt on the price tag !

I've been going to various Thai dentists for lots of years, settled on one in the Rangsit Market.  Here's a note I sent to my sister yesterday.

Noticed a broken tooth, upper left, 4th in, a couple days ago, no pain, zip, facing of the tooth MIA.  Worried a bit about cost, perhaps extraction, then a fake tooth or bridge of some sort.  Alternatively, a cap/crown, both costly.

 

Hit the dentist this morning, in and out in 35 minutes.  Looks like he treated it more like a filling, cleaned out the interior, then built it up in layers to where it was before.  Seems to have worked, looks OK.

 

Cost?  Baht 1,500, about $48.  Not too bad, I figure.
