PHUKET: Phuket Highways Office Chief Somwang Lohanut has ordered officials to install warning signs for the traffic lights at the “Kuan Dindaeng Intersection” on Thepkrasattri Rd in Rassada

The decision follows a spate of accidents at the intersection (see map below) since the lights were first switched on Wednesday this week (Feb 21). (See story here.)

“We have already been informed about the accidents caused on the first day that the traffic lights were switched on, (the accidents) might be caused by habit,” Mr Somwang told The Phuket News’ sister publication Khao Phuket.

"Darwinism is a theory of biological evolution developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (1809–1882) and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce."

Any other comment would be....well you know where we are going here.

If all lights at the intersection are as high as those pictured I would suggest bringing them down to eye level.

Perhaps installing barricade gates which drop down when the light changes to red would solve the problem.

After a few crashes into the barricade the public may realize the red light means stop, the amber light does not mean speed-up.  In many areas of the world there is a flashing light well in advance of the controlled intersection warning of stop lights ahead.

Maybe something more substantial would be required!

Why not use the chance to make money and put a few cops on duty to fine each and everyone jumping the red light? Even those in a "important" car!

Targeted Electro magnetic pulse everytime lights turn red and recycle the cars. Still thais would never learn. Its the Thai, Thai way. Translates to childish irresponsible way .

First they need to install a booth with AC, otherwise how can a few cops survive there?

Traffic lights are only for the foreigners. Thais have their own rules of course!

Kinda explains a lot more about thailand than was intended.

plus... someone please hook up the highways chief with some handcuffs, after making such a statement as would cause ridicule to Thailand

Yes but......all the overloaded/overheight trucks would probably knock them over!
