@MuuDaeng    as long as you have all the required paperwork you can put off the transfer for  6-7 weeks ( though if the seller is foreign and their visa expires or they go home in that time you may have problems)

DLT's open Monday to Friday.

I've read all 3 pages and I'm a bit confused.

I am also buying a car in a different province to which I live, I want the blue book in my name.

My intention was to get the seller to sign the 3 DLT transfer forms, get copies of his passport and visa and residence letter, drive the car home and register it at the DLT in my province. Do I need to go with him first to the DLT in his province and start the process there ?

@YorkshireTyke   You can do all the transfer procedures at your end at the local MAIN DLT

but you'll need a "power of attorney" form from the seller too as he probably won't want to go home with you ????  also get him to sign the blue book.

have a look at the files here Vehicle transfer2.rar

Which province do you live in  ?  as some DLT's have strange requirements others are easier going.

Thanks johng, I live in Prachuap Khiri Khan. (Hua Hin)

I forgot about signing the blue book.

I've just sold my first car so I am following what the guy did who bought from me but he's a dealer so know's what he's doing.

OK, planning to go to Phuket from Hua HIn (Prachuap Khiri Khan Province) next week to buy a car registered to a farang there.

Can someone confirm do I need to change which province the car is registered and does it also involve changing the registration number of the car ?

Would the best thing be to go with the owner and the car to the Dept of Transport in Phuket ?  If so do they change the plates to PKK or do I also have to visit DoT in Hua Hin ?

Thanks in advance, I want to ensure I have all the correct details and paperwork as I don't want to travel there twice.

Whether or not you need to change the province will depend if Phuket require a

(Phuket address ) residence certificate (or yellow book or work permit) from  the new buyer.. it seems some provinces don't require a certificate, some require certificate from that province, some except from other provinces..so lots of confusion for the poor old foreigner.

You could go with the seller and try at Phuket DLT while you're there.., if they won't do it then no big deal just drive it home and do it at Hua Hin DLT

If you have to change the cars province the number plates need to change too and they do that at the destination province so you would go to Hua Hin to get new plates.

You could also just do the whole process at Hua Hin DLT if all your paperwork is in order

( that includes sellers paperwork, make sure you have a way to contact the seller in case more stuff is required )

Thanks John g,

So by what you say it's probably a waste of time going to Phuket DLT, just get all the copies of the sellers passport and visas etc plus his letter of proof of address, get him to sign the blue book, then I take all to Hua HIn DLT with my passport copies and my proof of address.

Despite me asking the seller 3 weeks ago if the blue book is in his name and him replying yes, I've asked him to get proof of address letter from immigration before I go on Thursday. He has now said the car is in his wife's name ! Do I only need copies of her ID card or anything else to replace the immigration proof of residence letter ? Copy of house book ?

If he's wife is Thai then just a signed copy of her ID card front and back on A4 sheet of paper is ok.
If she's a foreigner then "certificate of residence"

Dont forget to get her to sign the blue book, power of attorney and request to transfer name forms too.
